5 best movies added to Netflix, BBC and more this week including Matt Damon’s “incredible” drama

If you’re planning to relax this weekend and looking for something to watch, several excellent movies have recently become available on major streaming services.

Among the highlights on Netflix, BBC iPlayer and others are an “incredible” Matt Damon classic, as well as a recent British hit from Wuthering Heights director Emerald Fennell.

Best movie new to Netflix this week

Searching: Taking a screenlife format – where nearly the whole movie takes place on a computer or phone screen – Searching follows a father (John Cho) as he delves into his daughter’s laptop after she goes missing, and desperately tries to find clues to her whereabouts.

I just finished watching this movie, and it’s got Debra Messing and Michelle La in it, which was awesome! It’s directed by Aneesh Chaganty, who also co-wrote it, and honestly, everyone’s raving about it – it’s got a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty incredible.

Fans of suspenseful films, creative storytelling, and actor John Cho should definitely check out this movie, according to reviews. But Why Tho? highlighted these aspects, while Keith & the Movies praised it as a captivating thriller that offers insightful commentary on our digital lives.

Best movie new to Prime Video this week

Good Will Hunting: This classic from 1997 stars Matt Damon as a genius but troubled mathematician whose talents are discovered by a professor. When he is arrested for attacking a cop, he agrees to a leniency deal to get therapy, which forces him to confront his past.

Viewers on IMDb have called Good Will Hunting “incredible” and “moving.” The film received numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, shared by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Robin Williams.

Stellan Skarsgård and Minnie Driver also star in the movie from director Gus Van Sant.

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week

Released in 2023, Saltburn quickly became a conversation starter thanks to memorable—and often shocking—scenes like the bathwater sequence and Barry Keoghan’s provocative dance.

The movie from Wuthering Heights‘ Emerald Fennell sees Keoghan play an Oxford student who becomes obsessed with one of his peers (Jacob Elordi), and is invited to stay at his aristocratic state over the summer – though events start to take an increasingly dark turn.

The film was called a “delightfully lavish and wicked affair” by Shade Studios, and “a thing of grotesque beauty and sublime wit” by Killer Movie Reviews.

Best movie new to ITVX this week

The original Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, is a beloved film from the 1980s. Loud and Clear Reviews described it as a thrilling and exciting spectacle filled with stars.

The movie follows his hotshot pilot as he trains at the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School – though his reckless attitude puts him at odds with other pilots.

The film also features Kelly McGillis and the late Val Kilmer. It later led to the successful 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, which brought Tom Cruise back to his iconic role.

Niamh Algar leads the cast of The Virtues, a new film directed and co-written by Prano Bailey-Bond. It’s been well-received, earning an 89% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to iNews, Censor is a clever and insightful movie that blends satire, horror, and social commentary.
