4 Years Later, Netflix’s Star-Studded Hit Sci-Fi Movie Keeps Getting Better

Netflix has a fantastic science fiction movie that continues to gain popularity four years after its release, and more people should definitely watch it. As the leading streaming service, Netflix has consistently produced successful original films, many of which have been viewed by over 100 million people. Sci-fi is one of the genres where Netflix really shines.

It’s great to see more science fiction being made lately, especially with streaming services investing heavily in creating detailed worlds and compelling stories. Netflix has produced some excellent sci-fi films, like Don’t Look Up, Bird Box, and The Mitchells vs. The Machines. One of these movies is celebrating its fourth anniversary this year, and it still holds up as a fantastic watch.

Netflix’s Star-Studded Sci-Fi Movie Broke Records

Released on Netflix on March 11, 2022, The Adam Project is a science fiction film directed by Shawn Levy. Levy later collaborated with the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds, on the hugely successful R-rated movie Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The movie also features several other actors known from Marvel films, including Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldaña.

The Netflix sci-fi film centers on Adam Reed, played by Reynolds, as he goes back in time to prevent his wife, Laura (Saldaña), from being killed. During his journey, he partners with a younger version of himself, portrayed by Walker Scobell, and reconnects with his parents, including his father, Louis Reed, played by Ruffalo – both Adams deeply missed him after he passed away.

The Adam Project is a heartfelt film exploring themes of childhood trauma and grief, combined with exciting action, stunning visuals, and time travel. It’s become incredibly popular on Netflix, currently ranking as the 5th most-watched movie ever with 157.6 million views – making it the top Sci-Fi film on the platform besides Don’t Look Up.

How Netflix’s The Adam Project Keeps Getting Better

Even four years after its release, The Adam Project is still a great watch, and it’s especially worth checking out if you haven’t seen it yet. A key part of what makes the film so enjoyable is the fun interaction between Ryan Reynolds’ older Adam and Walker Scobell’s energetic younger self. Since appearing in The Adam Project, Walker Scobell has become a rising star, now leading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+.

If you loved shows based on Greek myths and somehow missed The Adam Project, you’re in for a treat – Walker Scobell is fantastic in it! After that, Ryan Reynolds took on Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was cool to see him team up with director Shawn Levy again – they’d already worked together on The Adam Project. Even better, Levy brought Jennifer Garner back as Elektra, giving that character a really satisfying return. It was a great move all around.

Even years after its release, The Adam Project is still a standout film on Netflix. Beyond the great cast, the movie remains exciting because its special effects still look fantastic, and the story is just as emotionally impactful as ever. It’s a truly wonderful and heartfelt science fiction adventure.
