A strange example of this was in The Book of Boba Fett itself, which devoted two full episodes to storylines that didn’t even involve the main character, Boba Fett.

Honestly, looking back, The Book of Boba Fett felt less like a story in its own right and more like a very bumpy road leading into The Mandalorian season 3. The choices they made in these episodes actually hurt the narrative when we finally got to see Din Djarin’s next chapter. Instead of really digging into Boba Fett himself and giving fans what they wanted from his story, the show kept trying to expand the universe in ways that, frankly, just didn’t work – and we’ve seen that same problem pop up in other Star Wars series since then.

The Mandoverse Has Been Collecting Frustrations And Disappointments

Following The Book of Boba Fett, the interconnected Star Wars shows – often called the “Mandoverse” – haven’t quite lived up to expectations. Both The Book of Boba Fett and the third season of The Mandalorian were disappointing. While The Book of Boba Fett negatively impacted The Mandalorian by splitting storylines, overall, neither show reached the quality fans had come to expect.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian felt like a step backward, undoing the progress its characters had made and telling a confusing story that didn’t focus enough on the main hero. The first season of Ahsoka, another show in the same universe, was more enjoyable overall, but it still had some issues that were frustrating for viewers.

Lucasfilm likely took some important lessons from The Book of Boba Fett, but the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t entirely satisfy everyone. 2026 will be a crucial year, as the first Star Wars film in six years, along with Ahsoka season 2, needs to be successful. If these projects don’t perform well, The Book of Boba Fett might be seen as the start of a decline for the current era of Star Wars storytelling.
