4 underrated TV shows on Apple TV+ to watch right now

As a seasoned gamer and a connoisseur of all things streaming, I’ve dived deep into the digital realm, navigating through countless platforms in search of hidden gems that often get overlooked. Apple TV+, while known for its big-budget productions, has been a quiet treasure trove of underrated shows that deserve more recognition.

It’s common knowledge that Apple TV+ is associated with shows like “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” and “Severance.” Over the past few years, there have been several other well-received TV series added to its lineup as well. Lately, “Presumed Innocent” starring Jake Gyllenhaal has been generating positive buzz. However, Apple TV+’s significant investment in television production hasn’t yet led to a breakout mainstream success.

It’s important to clarify my stance: I’m an admirer of Apple TV+. The variety of high-profile television series they’re producing nowadays really impresses me. However, it seems quite unusual that there isn’t more discussion about these excellent shows.

As someone who’s spent countless hours binge-watching a myriad of shows across various streaming platforms, I must say that Apple TV+ has been a hidden gem for me. I’ve recently compiled a list of four underrated gems that you absolutely should not miss! These shows have captivated me with their unique storylines and exceptional production quality, making them stand out in the crowded world of streaming entertainment. So, if you’re looking to discover something fresh and intriguing, give these shows a try – trust me; they’ll be worth your time!

Pachinko

The television series “Pachinko” is an adaptation from the book of the same title by Min Jin Lee, produced for Apple TV+ by Soo Hugh. Directed by Kogonada and Justin Chon, this series narrates the tale of a Korean family’s odyssey in Japan, spanning four generations and over 80 years. The notable cast includes Youn Yuh-jung, Soji Arai, Jung Eun-chae, Anna Sawai, Jimmi Simpson, Kaho Minami, Steve Sang-Hyun Noh, Han Jun-woo, Kim Min-ha, Jin Ha, and Lee Min-ho.

It’s understandable that some people might not be aware of it yet as the first season of “Pachinko” debuted in March 2022. However, mark your calendars for August 23, 2024, because that’s when season 2 will air. If you’re a lover of quality television like me and appreciate compelling narratives, this is definitely worth checking out!

Slow Horses

If you’re into spy dramas, I highly recommend checking out “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+ at the moment. This show is adapted from Mick Herron’s “Slough House” book series. In the series, Gary Oldman portrays Jackson Lamb, a brave and unconventional leader of Slough House, a team of agents who may not be top-tier spies but also can’t quite adjust to normal life. Throughout the show, they handle tasks that are technically beyond their official remit and sometimes even things they shouldn’t be involved in at all.

The miniseries “Slow Horses” boasts an exceptionally talented ensemble, featuring Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Olivia Cooke, Saskia Reeves, Kadiff Kirwan, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Jonathan Pryce, Chris Reilly, and numerous others.

At present, there are three seasons of the show available on Apple TV+. The fourth season of “Slow Horses” will debut on September 4th. Since there are only six episodes in this new season, it’s a good idea to start watching now if you want to stay current.

Slow Horses has already been renewed for season 5 on Apple TV+.

Sunny

The highly acclaimed TV series “Sunny” is currently airing, yet it’s surprising that there seems to be little chatter about this fantastic Apple TV+ show. Debuted on July 10, “Sunny” is nearing the conclusion of its first season on the streaming platform. Intriguingly, the final episode of the season will be released on Sept. 4. Therefore, if you wish to catch up with this series or engage with “Slow Horses,” both premiering new seasons on the same day – Sept. 4 – you’ll need to decide quickly!

The show is a blend of humor and gloom, derived from Colin O’Sullivan’s book titled “The Dark Manual“. Rashida Jones plays the lead character Sunny, who receives a robot following her husband and son’s disappearance after a plane crash. Her performance in this series is truly remarkable!

In this fresh new series I’m part of, I find myself sharing the screen with Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, Jun Kunimura, and a fellow gamer named Jones. We’re all on an exciting adventure together!

Sunny, with its somewhat unique flavor, comes across as rather strong due to its prominent artificial intelligence element. However, I believe that the majority of viewers will find themselves appreciating this series once they take the time to give it a try.

Bad Monkey

The latest addition to our viewing list is “Bad Monkey.” As of now, its quality and popularity are still uncertain, but I’m optimistic about it given that we’re only at the beginning of the series.

On August 14, the comedy series titled “Bad Monkey” made its debut. This series is brought to us by Bill Lawrence, who co-created “Ted Lasso.” The lead role is played by Vince Vaughn as a character named Andrew. He’s a former detective residing in Florida where he inspects restaurants. However, when Andrew discovers what seems to be a murder case, he finds himself drawn back into the investigation.

The program boasts a remarkable ensemble of talented actors such as Jodie Turner-Smith, L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Ronald Peet, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Michelle Monaghan, and Alex Moffat.

In summary, I’m quite fond of “Bad Monkey“. While it doesn’t possess the emotional depth that made “Ted Lasso” exceptional, it certainly delivers laughs and has been enjoyable up to this point.

There are going to be 10 episodes in the first season of series. New episodes air weekly on Wednesdays only on Apple TV+.

Currently, there’s an abundance of fantastic series streaming on Apple TV+. I highly recommend checking out at least one of these four exceptional picks!
