4 TV shows that are coming to an end in 2025
As someone who has spent countless hours binge-watching these beloved shows, I must admit that it feels like part of my life is coming to an end. The characters we’ve grown to love and care for over the years are about to say their final goodbyes, and it’s not easy to accept.
2024 is quickly approaching its conclusion, offering us a chance to reflect on everything that has transpired. It’s been quite the journey with its fair share of ups and downs, and it’s safe to say that many conversations in the future will revolve around the events of 2024.
In terms of entertainment, particularly television, it’s worth noting that this year has been marked by some groundbreaking series that have left a significant impact, such as X-Men ’97, Agatha All Along, The Penguin, and House of the Dragon returning. However, it’s also been a time of farewells for cherished TV shows, with some ending earlier than expected.
After a successful four-season run on The CW, Superman and Lois bid farewell, concluding a 24-year tale in DC TV history with an impeccable series finale. Similar to this, The Umbrella Academy wrapped up its adventure, leaving behind one of the most debated series finales on Netflix. Lastly, Star Trek: Discovery concluded Captain Michael Burnham’s journey within that renowned shared universe.
Additionally, we sadly had to part ways with a few promising series like “Dead Boy Detectives” and “The Acolyte,” which unfortunately didn’t get the chance to continue beyond their initial seasons.
Looking toward the year 2025, it’s uncertain which series may be abruptly ended, but what is certain is that some will come to an end. Let’s explore and familiarize ourselves with these final shows.
Continued on the next slide…
Andor
There’s been quite a variety of views regarding Disney Plus’ Star Wars series. Many are fond of “The Mandalorian,” numerous others appreciate “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” while “The Book of Boba Fett” stirred up plenty of conversation. As for “Andor,” some may have initially overlooked it, but it’s now being hailed as a genuine masterpiece within the Star Wars universe by many.
Indeed, the initial season of Andor has received widespread acclaim, earning numerous accolades for its intricate plotlines and well-crafted scripts. Simultaneously, viewers have been thoroughly captivated by Diego Luna’s portrayal of his character from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This series provided fans with the long-awaited background details about this character while highlighting him in a manner that his big-screen appearance didn’t quite manage. Moreover, it presented an intense visual experience that steadily increased tension and kept viewers hooked from one episode to the next.
It’s rather unexpected that Disney and Lucasfilm are wrapping up “Andor” after only two seasons, as it was designed as a standalone series with its own narrative. This is what it has been doing, and the conclusion of this unique story will air on April 22, marking the premiere of its second and final season.
We’re going to miss wrapping up this Star Wars tale, as it’s definitely left us craving for more. Without a shadow of a doubt, we’ll have similar feelings when season 2 arrives.
The Handmaid’s Tale
For quite some time now, the narrative of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has captivated audiences worldwide. When Hulu unveiled its gripping adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel back in 2017, it left everyone spellbound. The thought-provoking series garnered a lot of attention and accolades, including multiple Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and numerous nominations, as viewers rallied behind June’s struggle against the suppression of women in this dystopian society.
As an ardent fan, I’ve been thrilled by the incredible journey of “The Handmaid’s Tale” over these five captivating seasons. Each episode has sparked intense discussions and kept me on the edge of my seat. However, amidst all the buzz, a recurring topic among fellow fans was speculating about how many more seasons the show would run. Many believed that after the third season, it could have been brought to a close, possibly paving the way for Hulu to explore Margaret Atwood’s sequel novel “The Testaments.
In the year 2025, it’s expected that season 6 of “The Handmaid’s Tale” will make its debut. As of now, Hulu hasn’t specified an exact release window, but we can confirm that by the end of 2025, this groundbreaking series will conclude its remarkable journey.
Elizabeth Moss’ performance as June has been truly remarkable, and it’s certain that this quality will continue in the upcoming final season.
9-1-1: Lone Star
The latest news about the 9-1-1 cinematic universe is buzzing because it’s growing again. The original show has seen renewed popularity since moving to ABC from Fox. What’s exciting now is that a new spinoff series is being created, although the original spinoff won’t be joining this time around.
Indeed, after five highly-acclaimed seasons, 9-1-1: Lone Star is set to draw its curtains on Fox. While five seasons is certainly something to celebrate, given the series’ success, it seems a tad early for an ending – especially considering the thriving state of the original franchise. However, despite its impressive viewership (and being one of the network’s top-rated shows), its run will be cut short next year. The decision isn’t related to the quality or performance of the show itself.
In their long-standing role as a team of brave first responders, Rob Lowe and Gina Torres have faced dangerous situations like poisonous fogs, severe ice storms, and numerous brushes with death. When an asteroid strikes Texas, they’ll once again strive to overcome the impossible. Although 9-1-1: Lone Star might be coming to an end, its compassionate heroes will ensure that it doesn’t mark the end of the world as we know it.
The series 9-1-1: Lone Star had so much potential left unexplored, it’s unfortunate that it didn’t continue for longer. However, in the style of the original 9-1-1, it looks like it will end with a powerful finale.
Stranger Things
The end of the wait is nearly here, with the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” fast approaching on Netflix. Over the past decade, this blockbuster series has experienced two significant setbacks in its production timeline, which is why we’ve had to be patient for five seasons. However, after a three-year pause due to the pandemic for the fourth season, it seemed like the fifth would follow soon afterward.
Despite starting the fifth season of production right before the WGA and SAG strikes occurred, filming had to be halted until they were resolved. Now, a year later, production is ongoing, demonstrating the grand scale that the Duffer Brothers intend for Stranger Things’ final season. Frankly, such an extensive effort aligns perfectly with what we’ve come to expect from Stranger Things.
It’s quite intriguing to ponder where the characters may find themselves when the story resumes in season 5. Although a time-jump is anticipated, the fact that a massive portal to the Upside Down has been torn open in Hawkins makes it impossible to simply gloss over this event. The series will likely address this conundrum creatively, revealing how the characters have been affected by this portal. As the climactic confrontation with Vecna’s army draws near, we wonder what challenges await Eleven and her friends. And, one can’t help but speculate if a Kate Bush classic might accompany these tense moments!
Season 5 of “Stranger Things” is still being filmed, so we probably won’t see it until summer at the very latest. It could also premiere in the fall. Netflix has big plans for this season, and we’re certain that when the show concludes, it will be a significant event – both exciting and a little bit sad as well.
