4 things we would like to see happen in a potential Beetlejuice 3

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, diving into the world of Beetlejuice once more feels like stepping into a nostalgic dream. The first film was a gem that left an indelible mark on my childhood, and revisiting it now brings back memories of late-night viewings with friends and countless rewatches.

Fans of horror movies are in for a treat today as the star-ghost from Beetlejuice is back! The movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has just started streaming on Max, and we can’t wait to watch it again! If you missed seeing this film when it was playing in theaters, now you have a second chance.

In this eagerly awaited second installment set over three decades after the initial film, we delve into the life of Lydia Deetz, portrayed by Winona Ryder. Now a grown woman, she’s thriving as the host of her own paranormal talk show. She also enjoys a loving relationship with her partner. Yet, life isn’t always smooth sailing, as she grapples with a strained connection to her teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega). It’s not all sunshine and daisies.

4 things we would like to see happen in a potential Beetlejuice 3

After a beloved family member unexpectedly passes, Lydia and Astrid hastily gather their belongings and travel back to Winter River for the funeral. However, not long afterward, events take an unusual turn. A gateway to the afterlife is activated, and the playful phantom Beetlejuice (played by Michael Keaton) resurfaces.

Similar to its 1988 predecessor, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is another delightful blend of horror and comedy. Having seen this movie, I find myself pondering about a potential third installment. Is there going to be a “Beetlejuice 3“? At present, it remains uncertain as no official confirmation has been made. Regrettably, if such a film were to materialize, it wouldn’t be imminent if Tim Burton is involved. He was the director for the first two movies, and from his statements, a second sequel isn’t currently on his radar.

Regrettably, the announcement of a Beetlejuice 3 remains uncertain at this point, but we remain optimistic that it might happen someday. In the interim, our team has been brainstorming ideas for what we’d like to witness in a potential third installment, and we’ve narrowed it down to four key aspects.

Spoilers ahead from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Lydia’s biological mom needs to make an appearance in Beetlejuice 3

In the initial Beetlejuice movie, Lydia’s biological mother was noticeably absent. The only Deetz family members introduced were Lydia, Charles, and Delia. While there was no on-screen appearance or mention of Lydia’s real mom in the first film, many viewers assumed she had passed away due to her absence. However, it is later revealed in Beetlejuice 2 that she is actually alive.

In the next installment, there’s a conversation between Lydia and Delia concerning Lydia’s troubled bond with Astrid. Delia subtly hints that Lydia’s biological mother has passed away, but Lydia promptly clarifies she is alive. Unfortunately, we don’t get any further details about her, such as a name or other specifics. It seems plausible that Lydia might have a strained relationship with her actual mom and that’s why she isn’t present in the story. However, this dynamic could evolve in a possible Beetlejuice 3.

In a potential third movie, it seems logical that Lydia might strive to reconcile with her biological mother since Delia and Charles have passed away, leaving only her daughter as a surviving close relative.

Delores LaFerve needs to return somehow

In the sequel, Delores LaFerve, who is Beetlejuice’s vengeful former spouse, spends most of the story trying to locate him. However, she fails to achieve her goal as she gets swallowed by a massive sandworm that Astrid calls forth using the afterlife book. Yet, one wonders if she has truly vanished for good. After all, Beetlejuice believed she was deceased when he murdered her with an axe previously. Perhaps there’s a chance she could return, given that she made a compelling adversary. I certainly hope so, as it would be delightful to see more of her in a potential Beetlejuice 3.

Exploration of Delia’s life in the afterlife

After a snake bite leads to Delia’s demise and transition into the hereafter, she reconnects with Charles. It’s impossible to resurrect her, but her quirky persona is too valuable to lose forever. If there ever comes a third film, it might delve into her afterlife experiences. Lydia and Astrid may attempt to communicate with her occasionally in the future. Besides Beetlejuice, she serves as a significant source of humor in the series.

An Adam and Barbara Maitland cameo

In the initial movie, it was Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis), who were the main characters. They were a deceased couple seeking assistance from an exorcist known as Beetlejuice, to remove the new occupants from their old house. Initially, they were planned to make a brief appearance in the sequel; however, this idea was eventually scrapped. The reason behind this decision was that the characters are ghosts and therefore supposed to remain at the age they died (around 30’s). Consequently, if the actors playing them in the sequel had to appear as their respective characters, they would have needed to look younger than they actually were at the time of filming.

Indeed, Alec and Geena continue to look fabulous at present. Yet, the creative minds behind the movie decided against showcasing this aspect. Instead, they opted to clarify why characters Adam and Barbara were absent from the film. In the sequel, we learn through Lydia that Adam and Barbara discovered a means to transcend into the afterlife.

Given that their appearances were halted for the sequel, it seems unlikely they’d feature in a hypothetical third movie. But fingers crossed!
