4 good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024
As a gamer who grew up in the early 2000s and spent countless hours glued to the TV screen during school breaks, I can confidently say that 2004 was an exceptional year for television premieres. It feels like just yesterday when I was huddled around the family’s old CRT TV, eagerly awaiting the next episode of my favorite shows.
2004 may not seem like two decades ago, but indeed, it has been, making this year a significant milestone for numerous beloved television series as they turn twenty.
2004 was quite understatedly excellent for new TV shows making their debut. Many of the series on the list of notable shows turning 20 in 2024 were television ratings winners. Cable networks held a considerable portion of the market share during the early 2000s, but it would take another decade for streaming platforms to significantly reshape the TV landscape.
As of now in television chronology, it’s exactly seven years prior to the debut of “Game of Thrones”. Please keep this in mind!

Lost
Originally developed by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof, the captivating series “Lost” made its debut on ABC in the autumn of 2004. This intriguing show revolved around a band of survivors who found themselves stranded on an enigmatic island following a plane crash. During its six-season stint on the network, it was one of television’s most watched programs.
The television series, “Lost,” boasted an extraordinary ensemble of characters. It would be impossible to name all the significant figures and actors, but Matthew Fox, Naveen Andrews, Emilie de Ravin, Maggie Grace, Jorge Garcia, Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Terry O’Quinn were among the beloved cast members.
Over a decade since “Lost” stopped airing, its popularity continues to grow as it moves from one streaming platform to another. It was once a highly-viewed show on Netflix, although it seems that may have shifted recently, yet it remains culturally significant even twenty years after its initial release.

Desperate Housewives
Back in October 2004, “Desperate Housewives” made a massive debut on television. During its first two seasons on ABC, it consistently ranked among the top five shows, and throughout its impressive eight-season run, it became one of the most popular series. The show concluded in the spring of 2012. It’s fair to say that “Desperate Housewives” significantly reshaped the face of broadcast television.
Marc Cherry’s show, “Desperate Housewives,” focuses on the lives of the women residing on Wisteria Lane, portrayed by Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, and Nicollette Sheridan. The series delves into the personal struggles, relationships, friendships, and entangled love affairs experienced by these characters.
If you haven’t seen Desperate Housewives, I highly recommend giving the series a watch today. Of all the shows on the list, Desperate Housewives holds up the best in my opinion.

House
If you enjoy contemporary medical dramas, there’s a good chance they were somewhat inspired by the series “House”. Airing first on FOX on Nov. 16, 2004, this series ran for eight seasons until May 2012. Initially not very successful, it eventually climbed into the ranks of the top 10 TV shows.
The show follows Dr. Gregory House, portrayed by Hugh Laurie, along with the staff of doctors and nurses at a unique hospital in New Jersey. Despite being difficult and often impolite, House employs his exceptional skills to unravel perplexing medical mysteries before it’s too late.
In the series, Jennifer Morrison, Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Olivia Wilde, Robert Sean Leonard, Peter Jacobson, and Kal Penn appear alongside Laurie as fellow stars.

Veronica Mars
Wow, can you believe that 20 years ago, Veronica Mars made its debut on UPN/The CW? This series was created by Rob Thomas and featured Kristin Bell in the lead role. Veronica Mars follows the story of the titular character, who takes up detective work for a bit of extra money. Surprisingly, she turns out to be quite skilled at it!
For a span of three seasons that concluded in 2007, the show never lost its dedicated audience! The Veronica Mars film made its debut in movie theaters ten years ago, specifically in March 2014. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that Hulu greenlit an official fourth season for the series to continue.
As a devoted gamer, I’m always thrilled to dive into a captivating series, and this one is no exception. The ensemble of actors here is nothing short of phenomenal – from Percy Daggs III, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Teddy Dunn, Jason Dohring, and many more talented individuals, each bringing their unique charm to the screen.
