This series is a unique blend of humor and drama, presenting the tale of Catherine the Great, portrayed by Elle Fanning, during her marriage with Emperor Peter III, played by Nicholas Hoult.

The spectacular series debuted on Hulu during the spring of 2020. It aired for three seasons on the streaming platform before wrapping up, in my view, too soon. Frankly, I believe this show doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves. It’s hysterically funny, surprisingly shocking, and simply outstanding! Believe me, I’m not just praising it.

The show titled “The Diplomat” seems reminiscent of “The Empress“, yet it’s significantly more comical and theatrical. Its narrative structure deliberately builds tension, making it quite intense. Conversely, “The Empress ” doesn’t follow this pattern, but it certainly delivers on the dramatic front!

“The Diplomat” sees Keri Russell portray Kate Wyler, the appointed Ambassador to the UK, thrust into her role amidst a significant global predicament. Much like The Empress, she finds herself unsure of whom to confide in. Amidst this intrigue, she embarks on an investigation to unmask the culprit behind the explosion of a British aircraft carrier and restore order.

Currently, there are two seasons of “The Diplomat” available on Netflix. The second season made its debut on Netflix on October 31st. In fact, the show was renewed for a third season before the premiere of season 3.
