4 good shows like Tell Me Lies to watch on streaming now

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of countless hours, I can confidently say that Tell Me Lies season 2 is a rollercoaster ride of secrets, lies, and toxic relationships that keeps me on the edge of my seat each week. The show’s intricate web of deceit and the complex dynamics between characters remind me a lot of playing a game of “Dungeons & Dragons,” where every decision you make can have far-reaching consequences.

In the second season of “Tell Me Lies,” which is currently streaming weekly episodes on Hulu, we find ourselves delving deeper into the world of secrets, deception, and the complex relationship between Lucy and Stephen. However, unlike before, they are no longer a couple. Yet, Stephen continues to manipulate her emotions in his usual way.

The series also explores the dynamics within their circle of friends, including instances where they conceal significant information from one another. For instance, the monumental secret that Evan and Lucy shared an intoxicated night together at the close of season one remains undisclosed. This clandestine act has unexpectedly steered Bree towards a novel journey with professor Oliver, who happens to be unaware that the mysterious woman was actually Lucy.

It’s no secret that Tell Me Lies is one of the more popular shows on streaming. And if you’re currently enjoying the season and looking for something with the same vibes, or you’re thinking ahead to when season 2 is over and need a series to fill the time, we’ve got your back! Here’s 4 good shows like Tell Me Lies to watch on streaming now.

Pretty Little Liars

Stream all 7 seasons on Hulu

It’s quite clear that the title “Liars” implies a lot of secrets and deception, which is indeed characteristic of the show “Pretty Little Liars”. If you’re seeking a similar atmosphere as “Tell Me Lies”, then this series fits the bill perfectly. Just as in the Hulu production, the central group of friends conceal information from one another at times, and there’s an added twist: the presence of a stalker, ‘A’, who menaces to reveal their hidden secrets by lying themselves.

And spoiler alert, there were multiple “A’s” thought the run of the seven seasons. Though even with hiding things, both groups of friends on both shows are there for each other, and that’s where you’ll see those similarities. The series does start out in high school, but there’s time jumps and we see the characters as adults eventually too. In Tell Me Lies season 2, Bree has started a relationship with married professor, Oliver. Of course high school is much worse, but their relationship is kind of mirroring Aria and Ezra’s right now too.

The Buccaneers

Stream season 1 on Apple TV+, season 2 in the works

During your college years, it’s essential to explore and figure out your path for the upcoming phases of your life. This time can be likened to a period of self-discovery and growth, similar to adolescence. The Apple TV+ series, “The Buccaneers,” delves into this concept more deeply than its initial appearance suggests. It’s filled with dramatic twists and hidden mysteries that make it far more intriguing than one might initially think.

This close-knit circle of friends harbors private matters. Regrettably, Stephen and Lucy’s connection is more than just toxic; it’s abusive. One of the main characters encounters this distressingly. The situation escalates beyond toxicity. It becomes abusive. Additionally, a subplot involving one woman’s husband having an affair with an older woman adds to the discomfort during the viewing experience. This is particularly true in the initial season, regarding Stephen and Lucy’s relationship.

The Sex Lives of College Girls

Stream the first two seasons on Max, season 3 coming in November 2024

Discussing self-discovery, that’s exactly what “The Sex Lives of College Girls” revolves around! Unlike other shows on this list, which lean towards drama, this Max series adopts a more comedic perspective when portraying college life. Despite this, it doesn’t shy away from the highs and lows of growing up, focusing on the friendships between four female characters, their romantic entanglements, and naturally, their love lives as well. Oh, and “Tell Me Lies” certainly has its fair share of intimate scenes. Not to mention, it stars Reneé Rapp, making it a must-watch for me!

Conversations with Friends

Purchase the first (and only) season on Apple TV or Prime Video

In my opinion, I hadn’t anticipated much overlap between “Conversations with Friends” and “Tell Me Lies” until we delved into the storyline of season 2 featuring Bree and Professor Oliver. However, if you’re searching for a series that shares similarities, this one certainly meets the criteria. University student Frances starts a romantic involvement with actor Nick, who catches the attention of his wife Melissa along with her former partner Bobbi during their performance of spoken-word poetry. With Melissa being a writer herself, she extends an invitation to them, leading to the intertwining of their lives.

In this captivating tale, Frances and Nick embark on a romantic journey, while Melissa and Bobbi appear to share an electrifying connection as well. This intricate web of relationships promises a complex narrative indeed! The plot doesn’t only delve into the complexities of an affair, but also mirrors the challenging friend dynamics depicted in “Tell Me Lies“. With so many stories unfolding simultaneously, I can assure you that this show will have you utterly engrossed from start to finish.

Tell Me Lies season 2 releases new episodes Wednesdays on Hulu.
