It’s the weekend, which means it’s time to relax and find something good to watch! The big question is: what shows should you binge-watch?
HBO Max has great shows like Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and The Wire, but for a quick weekend binge, it’s best to choose shows that are short, have a single season, or are anthologies. These self-contained stories can be finished in just a few days, and they often offer intense plots with satisfying conclusions – at least until a new season arrives. Whether you enjoy medieval humor or serious science fiction, HBO Max has something for everyone to binge-watch.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Is Game of Thrones Lite
Westeros and the world created by George R.R. Martin continue to captivate people, and the numerous Game of Thrones spin-offs have kept fans engaged and excited.
Dunk unexpectedly finds himself with a young squire named Egg after meeting a peculiar, bald boy at an inn. He takes Egg on as help in exchange for meals and faithfulness. Together, they travel to a tournament in Ashford, where Dunk hopes to prove himself and earn recognition, despite being very poor. This new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is a departure from other Game of Thrones shows, which often centered on ruthless power struggles, extreme violence, and characters with questionable morals; it offers a different kind of story.
While royal families play a part, the story really focuses on the inspiring journey of a common knight who rises to prominence solely through his honesty and strong values. It’s a funny, heartwarming fantasy that delivers the enjoyable experience many viewers hoped for from a show like Game of Thrones.
Heated Rivalry Is a Viral Queer Romance, Mixed With Sports
The story follows Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, hockey players on opposing teams – the Montreal Metros and the Boston Raiders. Their intense rivalry grabs the media’s attention, but behind the scenes, a passionate romance develops as they begin a secret relationship. The high-pressure world of professional sports adds complexity to their hidden connection, especially as both men are still figuring out their identities.
What begins as a simple connection between Shane and Ilya quickly deepens into something serious as they fall in love. Heated Rivalry stands out because it moves away from tired romance clichés. The attraction feels genuine, and their connection is real, but they also have to navigate their public lives and sexual identities. Unlike many stories, Heated Rivalry doesn’t rely on misunderstandings; instead, it features emotionally aware characters who are able to communicate openly with each other.
This show blends the excitement of the sports world with heartfelt drama and emotional connections, creating a truly captivating experience.
Dune: Prophecy Is a Worthy Dune Prequel
What was once thought impossible to adapt for the screen has blossomed into a full-fledged cinematic and television franchise. Following the successful Dune films starring Timothée Chalamet, Dune: Prophecy takes viewers back in time – 10,000 years before the events of the movies, and almost a century after humanity defeated armies of intelligent machines. This new series presents a different version of the Dune universe than fans have seen in Denis Villeneuve’s films, focusing on the early days of the powerful Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
Valya and Tula Harkonnen led a group called the Sisterhood, which later evolved into the Bene Gesserit. This powerful organization ultimately controlled the Imperium and the world by strategically planting religious prophecies and managing royal families. The novel Dune: Prophecy revealed the beginnings of both House Harkonnen and House Atreides, providing their origin stories.
The show just launched, and another season is planned for September 2026. This first season has six episodes, making it perfect for a binge-watch or enjoying over a weekend. It’s a captivating series with standout performances from a talented cast, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Travis Fimmel.
The White Lotus Is a Deeply Satirical Anthology About the Rich
The critically acclaimed series The White Lotus currently has three seasons, with a fourth one planned and set in France. But you don’t need to watch them in order! The first season works perfectly as a standalone story and is a great place to start. Each season follows a new group of incredibly wealthy and often irritating guests vacationing at a luxurious White Lotus resort. What begins as a relaxing getaway quickly turns dangerous, as someone always ends up dead before their vacation is over.
The show centers on two couples: Rachel and Shane, who are just starting out, and the wealthy Mossbacher family. Tanya McQuoid, a very rich guest, is a constant source of drama, and the hotel staff – including spa manager Belinda and hotel manager Armond – work hard to manage the demands of all the unusual and privileged visitors.
The story always starts by showing the moment someone dies during a vacation, but it doesn’t reveal who was killed or who did it until the very end. Throughout the narrative, hidden secrets, personal motivations, and complicated schemes are revealed, creating a bold and humorous critique of wealth and how money can corrupt people.
You can easily watch all the episodes of each The White Lotus season back-to-back. Although the seasons are linked, the connections aren’t really noticeable until Season 3.
