38 Star Wars Easter Eggs & References Explained

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Andor season 2 episodes 10-12

In the concluding episodes of season 2 for the series ‘Andor’, we encounter numerous links and correlations to the film ‘Rogue One’ as well as the broader ‘Star Wars’ universe. These final episodes pave the way for the occurrences in ‘Rogue One’ and the Battle of Scarif, making them some of the most gripping and emotional instalments within the series. Throughout this journey, there are numerous nods and significant pieces of narrative continuity to the legendary film.

After the Ghorman Massacre in 2 BBY and Mon Mothma’s rescue depicted in the seventh to ninth episodes of Andor season 2, the final episodes unfold a year later in 1 BBY, which coincides with the timeline of Rogue One. Here are some of the most significant Easter eggs, references, and connections we spotted in episodes 10-12 of Andor season 2.

  • Partisans in Jedha – ISB Supervisor Jung confirms to Luthen that the Empire knows Saw’s Partisans are on Jedha.
  • Fuel from Ghorman/Kyber from Jedha – While Ghorman’s kalkite was indeed needed for the Death Star project, the Empire has now moved on to mining Jedha’s kyber as well, connecting to the events of Rogue One.
  • Loth Cat – When it’s revealed that Jung was killed by Luthen, a pedestrian is seen nearby with a pet Loth-Cat.
  • Galen Erso – Rogue One’s Galen Erso and the lab on Eadu are confirmed to be part of the intel Jung gave Luthen.
  • Scarif – Scarif is also part of the intel, the Imperial world holding all the plans and data for the Empire’s most top-secret projects.
  • Luthen Killing Jung Mirrors Rogue One’s Opening Scenes – Luthen killing his ISB informant mirrors when Cassian kills his informant Tivik at the beginning of Rogue One.
  • Kalikori – A Twi’lek Kalikori can be seen in Luthen’s gallery, a historical relic representing a family clan’s history (first seen in Star Wars: Rebels).
  • Nautolan Bleeder – Luthen shows Dedra Meero a rare Nautolan bleeder knife. One of the most well-known Nautolans in Star Wars is Jedi Master Kit Fisto.
  • Vintage Imperial Starpath Unit – Dedra’s Starpath unit is the same stolen device from Steergard that first put Luthen and Cassian on her radar in Andor season 1.
  • Gungan Skull – A skull near one of the Nubian headdresses in Luthen’s gallery looks remarkably like it might belong to a Gungan.
  • Luthen’s Origins – Flashbacks reveal that Luthen Real was once a sergeant in the Imperial Infantry named Lear.
  • The Lina Soh Hospital – The hospital in Andor season 2 episode 10 is named after former Chancellor Lina Soh from the High Republic Era (translated from Aurebesh).
  • Devaronian Victory Necklace – Further flashbacks to Luthen and Kleya show them selling a Devaronian victory necklace. Notable Devaronians include Rebels’ Vizago and The Mandalorian’s Burg.
  • A Bombing on Naboo – It’s revealed that Luthen and Kleya once bombed a bridge filled with Imperials. Based on the architecture and clothing of nearby civilians, it does look as though this planet was Naboo.
  • “Do It” – Testing Kleya with the bomb’s trigger, Luthen barks at her to “do it“. This is Star Wars, so of course, Chancellor Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith comes to mind.
  • Who Else Knows? – Serving as the title for Andor season 2 episode 11 and the primary question Krennic asks Dedra about the Death Star, this is also the key question Cassian asks Tivik in Rogue One.
  • “Say The Word” – Dedra finally speaks the name “Death Star” at the prompting of Director Krennic, the first time the battle station’s official designation is said aloud in Andor.
  • “Five Fives” – Cassian and Melshi’s game with K-2SO sounds remarkably like the Pirates’ Dice from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which coincidentally featured Luthen’s Stellan Skarsgård as Bootstrap Bill Turner.
  • “Save The Sermon For Palpatine” – Major Partagaz reminds Krennic that he’s not the one the Director has to make excuses to regarding The Death Star’s delays, connecting to the known pressures Krennic was under from Palpatine and Grand Moff Tarkin to provide an operational battle station.
  • K-2SO At An Imperial Parade – Kaytoo reveals he was in a parade among 200 KX droids the last time he was on Coruscant, and that the Emperor was there. This was likely an Empire Day celebration, an annual holiday celebrating the dawn of the Galactic Empire following the end of the Clone Wars.
  • Luthen’s Legacy- Due to his lack of collaboration, web of lies, and paranoia, Luthen Rael was viewed by the Alliance just as badly as Saw Gerrera, despite having provided the key foundations for its origins.
  • K-2 Gets A Hallway Scene – Not unlike Darth Vader’s hallway scene at the end of Rogue One, K-2SO gets his own epic hallway battle against a team of tactical ISB agents to save Andor, Melshi, and Kleya.
  • Pao – During the hustle and bustle of the Alliance base on Yavin, Rogue One’s Paodok’Draba’Takat Sap’De’Rekti Nik’Linke’Ti’ Ki’Vef’Nik’NeSevef’Li’Kek aka “Pao” can be seen walking through the hangar, a male Drabatan who joined the Scarif strike team.
  • Mon, Bail, and Saw – Just like when the trio canonically met at the dawn of the Empire in the novel Mask of Fear, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa try to get through to Saw over holo-message with offers of aid, only for the paranoid Partisan leader to refuse their help despite the arrival of an Imperial Star Destroyer over Jedha.
  • Multiple Rogue One Styles – Several characters in Andor season 2’s finale episodes (Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, General Draven) now have the same costumes and hair as they have in Rogue One, highlighting just how imminent the events of the 2016 movie are.
  • Admiral Raddus – Admiral Raddus appears in Andor season 2’s final episode, the Rebellion commander who gives his life during the Battle of Scarif to ensure the Death Star plans get to Princess Leia. In The Last Jedi, one of the Resistance’s flagships is named after him.
  • “A Stolen Ship on an Unauthorized Mission” – This is far from the first or last time Cassian has taken a U-Wing against orders, though the next time he does it in Rogue One is of course the most important, ensuring the Rebellion’s survival and chances for victory by getting them the Death Star plans.
  • General Merrick – Rogue One’s General Merrick is referenced by Raddus, another member of the Alliance High Council and leader of Blue Squadron, one of the teams that was in orbit during the Battle of Scarif.
  • Rogue One Senators – Senators Jebel & Pamlo appear in Andor season 2, episode 12, the other members of Alliance High Command who first debuted in 2016’s Rogue One.
  • Tivik on Kafrene – Cassian’s informant and one of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans, Tivik is revealed to have been making calls to Yavin with information he’ll only share with Andor on the Ring of Kafrene, connecting to the aforementioned opening scene in Rogue One where Cassian confirms the intel about the Empire’s new superweapon and Galen Erso.
  • Drinking To The Fallen – Before Andor leaves for Kafrene, Cassian and Vel drink to those who’ve fallen for the cause in both Andor seasons 1 & 2: Luthen, Gorn, Nemik, Taramyn, Cinta, The Ghormans, Ferrix, Maarva, and The Dhanis.
  • Nemik’s Manifesto – It’s revealed that Nemik’s manifesto has spread across the galaxy, and even Partagaz has a recording, listening to the young Rebel’s words about how “The frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere“, “Tyranny requires constant effort“, and that “Oppression is the Mask of Fear”. Inspired by the manifesto, Lucasfilm recently released a canonical novel with Mask of Fear as its title, set during the Empire’s earliest days.
  • “Go Down Swinging” – Despite his sadly ironic doubts about the Death Star considering his and Alderaan’s imminent destruction by the battle station’s superlaser, Bail Organa approves Cassian’s Rogue One mission to the Ring of Kafrene, wanting to “go down swinging” against the Empire.
  • Andor Wearing Rogue One Costume – Just like previous characters in Andor season 2’s final episode, Cassian dons the same jacket, holster, and pistol he’s wearing in his Rogue One debut.
  • Dedra in Prison – Not unlike Cassian and his time on Narkina 5, Dedra Meero is shown in a very similar Imperial prison, wearing the same white and orange uniform.
  • Saw on Jedha – Saw is shown looking out a window from his base of operations on Jedha, mirroring a similar shot from Rogue One.
  • Krennic overseeing Death Star – Krennic is also shown overseeing the final stages of the Death Star’s construction, another parallel shot to one seen in Rogue One.
  • Bix and Child on Mina Rau – Bix Caleen returned to Mina Rau, the farming world seen in Andor season 2’s premiere episodes (and holding a baby whose father is undoubtedly Cassian’s.

All episodes of Andor season 2 are now streaming on Disney+.
