33’s abrupt move: From Team Liquid to Tundra after winning TI13
As a veteran gamer with years of Dota 2 under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I witness the shifting sands of the competitive scene. The departure of 33 from Team Liquid to join forces with Tundra Esports is a move that, while unexpected for many, was perhaps inevitable given their history together.
Unexpectedly, it turns out that Team Liquid had known all along about their offlaner leaving to establish a new team with Tundra Esports – here’s the reasoning behind it.
Once The International tournament concludes, it’s common to witness significant roster shifts in the Dota 2 esports scene. However, one team consistently remains stable: the championship-winning team. But there are exceptions, like Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling with Evil Geniuses, for instance. Neta “33” Shapira departed from Team Liquid to join Tundra following their Aegis of Champions victory. Was this a forced decision or mutual consent? Stick around to discover the answer!
He departed Team Liquid to join Tundra Esports because his teammate Martin “Saksa” Sazdov was also making the move. Saksa had been inactive for nearly a year but came back as a temporary player for Tundra during TI13. Remarkably, this unexpected return of Saksa played a significant role in helping Tundra secure a top 3 finish, even though they hadn’t played together before.
Who is Team Liquid’s new offlane player after 33’s sudden move to Tundra?
33’s choice didn’t come as a shock to Team Liquid, as they had already prepared a name for such an event, given their past success together and the strong chemistry they shared. From now on, the team that won The International will be teaming up with Jonáš “SabeRLight-” Volek. Their collaboration at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 resulted in a top 3 finish, which also sparked the amusing Insania-teasing-Bulba incident.
It’s not unexpected anymore since it was mentioned so often within the community. However, SabeRLight- isn’t filling in temporarily, but is a permanent team member. Blitz made this announcement: “Now that we have SabeRLight-, our squad is fully assembled. For those curious, miCKe will be handling drafting and leading as captain. Don’t fret, we’ll deliver – just bear with us while we get settled in the kitchen.
What’s next for Team Liquid and Tundra?
Although Team Liquid has completed their roster, the fate of Tundra Esports remains uncertain following the retirement of Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and the departure of Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko along with Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev. However, this presents a significant opportunity for player 33 to construct a new team within Tundra Esports.
However, time management proves to be challenging. The upcoming Tier 1 tournament, PGL Wallachia S2, which begins on October 4, is fast approaching. Immediately following this, on October 19, the BB Dacha Belgrade 2024 gets underway. Notably, Tundra has been confirmed as a participant for the initial event, while there’s still an open invitation for them in the second tournament.
