3 villains that make the most sense to build Star Trek 4 around

As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who’s spent countless hours pondering the finer points of interstellar politics and warp drive equations, I can confidently say that the villains in these films have always been a major draw for me. They elevate the stories from good to great, and even the not-so-great ones are remembered because of them.

In essence, the Star Trek series is characterized by numerous distinctive aspects, yet arguably none are more crucial (apart from the narrative) than the antagonist. A compelling villain can elevate a good story to greatness and even make a mediocre one stand out. An antagonist who interacts effectively with the protagonist(s) is crucial for a series or film to shine, and this holds true for Star Trek as well. The films that boast the most memorable villains tend to be the most successful.

These four Star Trek films – Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country, First Contact, and the 2009 reboot – stand out due to their well-crafted villains, who are convincingly motivated and skillfully portrayed by their respective actors. Although some fans found Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Khan Noonien Singh in Into Darkness less than ideal, his performance remains memorable and frequently quoted today.

With Star Trek 4 being worked on, we eagerly anticipate who among the iconic characters from the Original Series might be revitalized for the potential fourth and concluding Star Trek Kelvin movie.

Dr. Roger Koby

Today, a rather direct guess might be Dr. Roger Koby. Given his background in robotics and AI from the original series, he seems an apt candidate to represent contemporary concerns about artificial intelligence.

General Chang

In the second Star Trek movie, Khan was adored by all, but General Chang from the sixth film is no less formidable as an antagonist. Christopher Plummer breathed life into this character with his vibrant performance. His commanding presence, arrogance, and deceit were all prominent features. He betrayed his own people for a taste of power and glory, which serves as a chilling reminder of the excesses we see in contemporary politics. Watching Chang climb the ladder of power through treachery is a stark reflection of the challenges we face today.

Gary Mitchell

As a lifelong Star Trek fan who’s seen every episode and movie multiple times, I must say that bringing back Gary Mitchell as a central antagonist in the fourth film would be an exciting addition to the franchise. In my opinion, Mitchell is one of those characters who, despite being relatively unknown outside of hardcore fans, has immense potential for creating drama and tension on screen.
