3 unexpected Star Trek characters we’d like to get their own series
As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who’s spent countless hours navigating the final frontier and dissecting every nuance of the franchise, I can confidently say that these under-the-radar characters deserve their moment in the spotlight.
In Star Trek, there are numerous prominent characters that draw a large following, primarily the captains who serve as the central figures in their respective series. However, sometimes it’s not just the main characters who capture the fans’ attention – secondary characters like Seven of Nine and Worf become fan favorites too. Despite their popularity, these secondary characters may not be ideal for building a show or storyline around.
Instead of being cast alongside prominent figures after their roles are already established, these lesser-known characters also have their own narratives unfolded, even if not as the main protagonists. They may not always be the center of attention, but they are certainly visible and well-developed. However, one can’t help but wonder about the intriguing supporting characters who often blend into the background, yet seem worthy of more screen time to fully flesh out their stories.
Which characters would you think are worthy of having their own series, given they’ve had a season or more playing supporting roles?
Harry Kim
He had some really cool episodes in Star Trek: Voyager, but Harry Kim really didn’t evolve on the show. He started the series as a single ensign and ended it the same way. Everyone else around him got promoted, fell in love, had kids, and the like, but Harry? Nothing. Coming back into a series where Kim, now a battle-hardened veteran recounts the stories of his career up until that point could be unique and interesting. Kim, the former ensign, is now maybe a captain or even more, and maybe he’s left Starfleet. Maybe he’s a bounty hunter or a rebel leader. Something about him really works when you go beyond the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed rookie he was on the bridge of Voyager.
George Kirk
As a gaming enthusiast diving into the Star Trek universe, I find myself intrigued by George Kirk, the lesser-known sibling of Captain James T. Kirk. He’s often overshadowed by his brother, but what about George’s life before he met his untimely end in the Original Series? We’ve caught glimpses of his life on Strange New Worlds, yet there’s so much more to uncover about this enigmatic character. But here’s where things get intriguing – what if George didn’t really die? What if the events leading to his demise were a clever cover-up for something far greater? Exploring that possibility would be quite the adventure!
Katherine Pulaski
Joining the cast during Star Trek: The Next Generation’s second season, Dr. Katherine Pulaski is a no-nonsense medical officer who seems dismissive towards androids like Data. However, could there be more to her antipathy than meets the eye? Let’s delve into her background and explore the possibility of hidden motivations for her dislike of artificial life forms. So, what can we uncover about Dr. Katherine Pulaski?
