3 shows like Stranger Things on Netflix (Plus, one bonus series to watch too!)
As a die-hard fan of Stranger Things, I can confidently say that the anticipation for season 5 is driving me up the wall! But fear not, fellow binge-watchers, because I’ve got some top-notch recommendations to keep you entertained until our beloved gang graces our screens once more.
Stranger Things ranks among the finest television series available today, and it’s truly remarkable how much of a cultural impact it has made. It’s hard to believe just how widespread its popularity has become. We devoted fans eagerly anticipate each new season, and the wait between them can certainly feel lengthy. The fifth and final season of Stranger Things, tentatively scheduled for 2025, is something we’re all looking forward to with great excitement.
That’s still a long time, and we need something to fill our time while we wait for the Netflix series to return to our screens. Here’s 3 shows like Stranger Things that you can watch on Netflix if you’re missing the supernatural series, plus we provided one bonus rec to check out on streaming too!
Outer Banks
Stream on Netflix
A series revolves around a gang of companions who frequently find themselves in perilous situations embarking on a thrilling and potentially deadly quest. Does this resonate? The personalities in “Stranger Things” undeniably fit the bill, and so do those in “Outer Banks”. Although the characters are teenagers, turning young adults in season 4, “OBX” carries a similar vibe to “Stranger Things”.
In reality, they don’t fight Demogorgons or Vecna; instead, their adversaries are individuals who can be found in our daily lives, such as mercenaries, or even fathers. Yet, the central theme remains the same. If you’re looking for action, a close-knit group of friends embarking on missions while also enjoying some humor along the way, then you should definitely check out Outer Banks. It’s sure to bring back the feels of Stranger Things. At the moment, seasons 1 through 3, as well as season 4 part 1, are available for streaming. Part 2 will premiere on Thursday, Nov. 7.
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Stream on Netflix
First in the lineup is “The Haunting of Hill House,” followed by its sequel series, “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” While you can appreciate “Hill House” on its own, I found myself preferring “Bly Manor” and believe it makes a better choice if you’re seeking a viewing experience similar to “Stranger Things.” This Netflix production carries a more eerie, supernatural vibe.
But, hey. No one said Stranger Things isn’t a little scary either. When Dani is hired and moves into Bly Manor to take care of two kids who are now orphaned, she soon finds out that the home is haunted. The characters have to contend with scary supernatural forces as the mystery of it all unfolds. The series is one season.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Stream on Netflix
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is another gripping teen horror drama that fits the bill! It centers around the character of Sabrina Spellman, a teenager who is both a witch and human. On her 16th birthday, she must fully accept her supernatural half, which presents a significant challenge as she leads a normal teenage life with her boyfriend Harvey and friends, but can’t ignore her magical side either.
She has the backing of her aunts Hilda and Zelda, who make sure she doesn’t handle her difficulties alone throughout her journey. Spanning two seasons divided into four parts, Sabrina experiences a great deal of learning in the mystical realm and embarks on numerous escapades. Despite the finale not being popular among viewers – myself included – I believe it’s still worth watching the show.
Hysteria!
Stream on Peacock
Alright, this one is a bonus one for two reasons! First, it’s not on Netflix. Hysteria! is a Peacock original series. And second, it hasn’t started streaming just yet. Though it’s coming very soon. And unfortunately, Stranger Things isn’t so this show is the perfect one to fill your time. Hysteria! premieres Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 with all 8 episodes. So, yay. It’s a binge-watch!
If you check out the trailer, the series appears to have a strong resemblance to “Stranger Things”. The ’80s ambiance, the fashion, and the set designs all seem quite alike to the popular Netflix show. Furthermore, when a high school football star mysteriously vanishes, a group of band-mates use the hype surrounding the Satanic Panic to boost their music’s popularity. Regardless of opinions, people will be tuning in. What other secrets lurk in the shadows? We’ll discover soon!
