In terms of the future of a galaxy distant and vast, it seems that Star Wars TV series may persist in one shape or form. They cater to a broad range of viewers, are typically family-friendly, and boast immense possibilities for merchandise. However, just because Disney+ has the ability to create any Star Wars show doesn’t necessarily mean they will.
Enthusiasts of Star Wars often don’t hesitate to voice their desires, even if they realize these wishes might not be granted. For a long time, ideas for potential Star Wars series have filled Reddit discussions and articles. Nevertheless, there are some concepts that fans may never get to watch on television.
1. A TV show about Darth Vader
Darth Vader is arguably one of the most famous villains in pop culture lore, with many Star Wars enthusiasts eager to watch a series centered around him, regardless of their feelings towards the character. It’s likely that such a show would be financially successful. However, it seems unlikely that Disney+ will produce it.
The reason Disney+ likely won’t make Vader the main focus: For the most part, the Star Wars stories have wisely chosen to include Vader as a character in other storylines instead of making him the central figure. Comics have been the only exception. Lucasfilm understands that even though Vader is an iconic character, he has already had ample time in the limelight. He shines best when supporting other characters.
2. A Star Wars Rebels sequel series
For four seasons, starting from 2014 on Disney XD, the cherished animated show “Star Wars Rebels” graced our screens. Since its concluding episode in 2018, fans have been eagerly speculating if Lucasfilm might one day produce a follow-up series, featuring the same characters but perhaps set many years ahead in an animated format.
Explanation on the absence of further developments for the live-action series Star Wars: Ahsoka:
The ongoing live-action series titled Star Wars: Ahsoka, which has been confirmed to have at least one additional season, is essentially a continuation of the animated series Rebels. The story follows characters such as Sabine and Ahsoka, who reunite with Ezra. Meanwhile, Hera travels around the galaxy with her son, while mourning the loss of Kanan. Despite not meeting fan expectations for this series, it seems that this is the extent to which further developments will be made at present.
3. A Luke Skywalker Jedi academy show
In current Canon, we don’t have extensive details about Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy, but we’ve caught glimpses from certain books and TV episodes. There’s been lots of enthusiasm for a series focusing on Luke’s students before Ben Solo’s fall to the dark side. However, if such a show materializes, it’s not expected to happen right away.
Explanation for why Disney+ might not do it: Recall the time when The Mandalorian reintroduced Luke Skywalker, yet conversations were mostly about the special effects? There have been whispers for quite some time about a Luke Skywalker recast, but such an event could occur in the future. Assuming we did receive a series like this, it would be set before the sequels and, in the broader Lucasfilm universe, they haven’t delved much into that era lately. Whether they ever will or not is still uncertain.
