3 questions we have about 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' from D23 Expo

As a lifelong Star Wars fan who’s been through the highs and lows of this epic saga, I must say that the latest sneak peek at The Mandalorian and Grogu has me buzzing like a Tauntaun on hyperspace! It was thrilling to catch a glimpse of what’s in store for our favorite duo, even though we’ve got to wait another two years.

At D23, enthusiasts were given a special preview of advance scenes from “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a project that has just commenced its main filming. Even though it’s still about two years before its launch, catching a sneak peek of what lies ahead undoubtedly added to the excitement for the audience, offering a tantalizing hint of what’s to come in the next season.

Every time there’s a new trailer drop, I can’t help but whip out my phone and join the crowd recording the action. This one’s barely two minutes long, but it’s packed with snippets from the series and the upcoming movie. It’s already online, and even in its limited form, it’s sparked a lot of anticipation within us gamers. We can’t wait to uncover more about what this movie holds!

Here are 3 questions we have about The Mandalorian and Grogu:

1. Why does Din still refer to Grogu as his apprentice?

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder about something that may seem trivial yet holds significant weight. At the end of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3, we saw Din adopting Grogu, whom he refers to as his “apprentice.” However, in my heart, I see Grogu as more than just an apprentice – he’s also Din’s son. The anticipation among fans is palpable, eagerly waiting for the moment when Din will acknowledge Grogu as his son, just as we eagerly await for Grogu to call him “Dad.” It’s a small detail that carries immense emotional weight. Maybe Jon Favreau has something special planned for their father-son bonding moments in future episodes. Whatever the reason behind Din calling Grogu his apprentice, I can’t wait for the day when he acknowledges him as his son.

2. Will Din Djarin remove his helmet?

It seems that filming for Fantastic Four has been ongoing for quite a while now, and there were hints prior to Pedro Pascal joining the cast that he might be involved. Some fans think they’ve spotted him in some of the new footage, perhaps without his helmet and possibly even inside the suit. Given that it can be challenging for hardcore fans to differentiate between Pedro Pascal, Barry Lowin, Brendan Wayne, or Lateef Crowder when they’re wearing the suit, there’s speculation that it could be Pedro in the suit for some of the new scenes, such as one where Din fires his blaster at a group of people. Many fans are hoping to see more of Pedro in the suit and maybe even have Din take off his helmet for the first time since Season 2.

3. Will Din meet the Ghost Crew?

Is it possible that Din’s encounter with Zeb could result in a friendship between Din, Hera Syndulla, and Ezra Bridger? Given their shared allegiance, this group could make an effective team. Din might aid Hera and Ezra in retrieving Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren from Peridea. Moreover, it’d be exciting if Jacen Syndulla and Grogu got to meet each other, as they are both young Force-sensitive individuals with strong parental figures!

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026 and The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
