3 potential retirement matches for Bill Goldberg
As a lifelong wrestling fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of many legends, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as Bill Goldberg prepares for his final bow. The impending retirements of Sting, Bryan Danielson, John Cena, and Hiroshi Tanahashi make it seem like an entire era is coming to an end.
Bill Goldberg has announced his intention to retire from wrestling by the year 2025. As several influential figures in the sport call it quits, it seems like a significant era of wrestling is drawing to a close. Goldberg’s retirement will follow closely behind Sting and Bryan Danielson in 2024, with John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi retiring in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Goldberg has signaled his final farewell, and these four individuals are particularly noteworthy as potential successors to the former champion.
GUNTHER
As a diehard fan here, I’m pumped up about Goldberg’s hinted showdown against the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion! At Bad Blood, Gunther didn’t hold back, firing some sharp words about me, my career, and even my family. Frankly, it’s no wonder that the proud warrior in me is seeking revenge at some point. Bring it on!
Goldberg’s final run could plausibly include a match against someone other than Gunther, provided he isn’t scheduled to defeat him. The internet reaction might go wild if Goldberg managed to end another significant run in some way. Triple H wouldn’t risk that, at least we expect not. Moreover, it would be quite entertaining for everyone to witness Goldberg receiving one of Gunther’s powerful chops.
Randy Orton
Next year on SmackDown, it’s proposed that Randy Orton embarks on a significant villainous (heel) streak. This run could lead him to betray Cody Rhodes, capture the WWE Undisputed Championship, and possibly challenge John Cena at WrestleMania 41. Throughout this journey, he might encounter Bill Goldberg as a formidable title contender, ultimately defeating him in a major match, marking Goldberg’s retirement for good.
Picture Orton resurrecting the Legend Killer persona for a final title chase. If Goldberg were to join the list, he’d undoubtedly become another legend. It’s been unthinkable that Randy Orton and Bill Goldberg have never shared a ring – but in 2025, it could very well be a dream match!
Oba Femi
If Bill Goldberg is indeed retiring, it would be beneficial for him to pass the torch to a rising star as he exits. A perfect candidate for this role could be Oba Femi, who is speculated to join the main roster soon. The impact would be immense if Femi debuts and embarks on an impressive winning streak, reminiscent of Goldberg’s early days in WCW. This would create a buzz that might lead Goldberg to challenge Femi, only to face defeat and become another name added to his list. If Femi were to say “You’re Next” before or after defeating Goldberg, it would make for an unforgettable introduction to the main roster. What a fantastic way to establish a new superstar!
