Marvel Studios created a buzz around their upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, by revealing the cast in a long video showing the actors taking their seats. The video confirmed the appearance of the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, and a total of 27 actors. However, it was always expected that more characters and actors would be added to the film.

Marvel hinted at more character announcements, leading many fans to anticipate a second reveal event. Although that didn’t happen, the initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was expected to show us which of the previously announced actors would be teaming up in the film.

Steve Rogers & His Child Are Now Confirmed For Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Studios just dropped the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, and it’s only playing in movie theaters before Avatar: Fire and Ash. Surprisingly, the teaser doesn’t show any of the 27 previously announced characters. Instead, it reveals that Chris Evans will be returning as Steve Rogers in the new film.

The new trailer shows Steve Rogers, formerly Captain America, living in the alternate timeline he went to at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It’s set some time after he reunited with Peggy Carter, and he’s still wearing his original Captain America suit. The trailer concludes with the line “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,” officially confirming Chris Evans’ return to the role.

Besides Steve Rogers’ return, the preview also surprisingly revealed he has a son in the upcoming film, Doomsday. We see him lovingly holding his baby boy in the nursery, smiling down at him. This marks a new chapter in Steve’s life – he’s become a father.

It’s still unclear how important Steve Rogers’ child will be to the story, but the fact that he’s featured prominently in early marketing suggests a significant role. Some reports even say Steve Rogers is the main character. Either way, confirming roles for Steve and his son brings the total number of known characters in the movie, Doomsday, to 29, and there’s strong evidence a 30th character will be revealed soon.

Peggy Carter Is Absolutely In Avengers: Doomsday Too

The recent teaser for Steve Rogers strongly suggests his great love, Peggy Carter, will appear. Considering Steve’s willingness to risk everything—even the entire multiverse—to be with her, it’s highly probable that any child he might have would be with Peggy.

Based on this trailer, the idea that Peggy Carter will appear in the movie seems likely, but there’s more supporting that belief. Industry news previously indicated Hayley Atwell would be in Avengers 5, shortly after reports surfaced about Chris Evans reprising his role. Now that Evans’ return is confirmed, it’s reasonable to assume plans haven’t changed and Atwell will also return as Peggy Carter.

Okay, so I was watching the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and while Peggy Carter herself isn’t in it, her son and Steve Rogers are! Honestly, knowing Marvel, there’s no way they’d hint at a storyline involving Steve and his family without eventually showing Peggy too. So, I’m pretty confident we can add Steve, Peggy, and their son to the cast list for Phase 6 now – I’m excited to see how that plays out!
