As a die-hard wrestling fan who has spent countless hours watching matches from the ’80s to the present day, I must say that Mercedes Mone’s arrival at AEW has been nothing short of electrifying. The build-up and subsequent weeks have not only elevated the division but also left us fans on the edge of our seats, eagerly anticipating what’s next.

Since her arrival at the company, Mercedes Mone has been a pivotal figure on the AEW roster. The time leading up to and following her debut significantly enhanced how the division was depicted on television. Although momentum has shifted somewhat since then, Mone continues to be one of the most prominent stars in the organization. She’s remained undefeated since joining AEW, but in the world of wrestling, that streak will eventually end. By examining the current roster, here are three suggestions for who could be the first woman to defeat Mercedes Mone.

ATHENA

The “Forever Champion” seems stuck in Ring of Honor. While her peers get the opportunity to show up on main roster shows, ATHENA continues to carry ROH each week. As a dedicated wrestling fan, one trope that’s always intriguing is the divide between the main wrestler and their supporting act. When Kamille first emerged as Mone’s “heavy,” she found herself in an ideal position. This role allows her to shine without needing extensive mic work, with her physical prowess taking center stage instead. As her in-ring skills continue to align with AEW’s unique style, it feels like a storyline the company has been waiting to unfurl – a potential split between Kamille and Mone. It would be fascinating to witness the reactions of fans should this happen, as Kamille steps into a new role.

Marina Shafir

Marina Shafir is involved in one of the primary angles going on in AEW. She’s in the perfect position beside Jon Moxley and seems a part of the new version of the Blackpool Combat Club. While fans were critical of her work for years, those paying attention saw her improve as a part of Ring of Honor. As her style continues to develop, it would be interesting to see if she begins to target some of the women on the AEW roster, especially Mercedes Mone as she’s not a “homegrown” talent. Mone would certainly sell the Mother’s Milk choke and that would be a stunning visual.
