If you’ve been involved in Star Wars fandom for some time, you may have come across some well-known projects that were started but never completed or released. Ranging from the TV show Star Wars: Underworld to the book series Sword of the Jedi, many anticipated projects haven’t made it to fans’ viewing or reading pleasure.
Among the numerous Star Wars projects rumored to be in limbo, some are particularly noteworthy as potential losses. Fingers crossed that Lucasfilm may reconsider them at some point in time.
1. Rangers of the New Republic
In the vast galaxy of Star Wars lore, there aren’t many on-screen ventures that delve into the less-explored aspects of the New Republic period. If the show “Rangers of the New Republic” had been produced, it would have provided a fresh and distinctive viewpoint on the inner workings of this government across the galaxy, setting the stage for The Force Awakens. However, most reports indicate that this project is no longer in development.
There are several possibilities as to why Lucasfilm and Disney+ decided not to proceed with this particular series. Some ideas may have been incorporated into shows such as ‘Ahsoka’, leaving little room for others. However, given the unpredictable nature of this franchise, it’s always possible that something could change in the future.
2. Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film
Back in 2020, Patty Jenkins and Lucasfilm unveiled plans for a Star Wars film titled Rogue Squadron, focusing on the lives of star pilots. Although Jenkins showed great enthusiasm for the project and fans eagerly anticipated it, by 2025, it seems that the movie has been put on indefinite hold.
I, as a dedicated follower, took this project very seriously, even going so far as to arrange a meeting with one of the authors from the X-Wing book series during the film’s early stages. My admiration for the source material and Star Wars in general wasn’t just lip service; it was evident in my work. I believe I have what it takes to make a great movie, and I hope that one day we’ll get to see it on the big screen.
3. The Acolyte
Currently, there are no announced plans by Lucasfilm for the continuation of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” on Disney+ beyond its initial season. However, the show left fans eagerly anticipating the resolution of the intriguing cliffhanger in a potential second season. Although it may not be happening at this moment, there’s always the possibility that it could return in the future.
Consider Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a case in point. Initially, it spanned five seasons, followed by additional episodes for a sixth season. Then, surprisingly, in 2020, the series returned for its seventh and concluding season, wrapping up the original narrative – a continuation many had believed impossible due to its supposed permanent termination. In terms of Star Wars television, miracles do happen!
