Early January is a great time to relax and enjoy movies, and Netflix has a huge selection to choose from. Everyone knows Netflix – they’ve been leading the way in streaming for years. They offer both classic favorites and a wide range of original shows and films.
Netflix has a huge and constantly updated library of movies, offering something for almost everyone. But with so many choices, it can be tough to decide what to watch! Luckily, they have all sorts of films, from exciting action to spooky classics, and plenty of other genres too.
3. Man On Fire (2004)

Although it first received very negative reviews, Man on Fire is now widely considered to be one of Denzel Washington’s greatest films. He stars as a former CIA operative hired to protect a young girl, and when she is kidnapped, he uses his skills to save her. Man on Fire successfully showed Washington’s ability to excel in action roles, combining exciting action with a compelling story.
I absolutely love Man on Fire. While the story is straightforward, Denzel Washington’s performance is incredible, and Tony Scott really knew how to direct. Every scene feels so real and intense, and it brought something fresh to the action genre, which can often feel overdone. It’s amazing to me that even decades later, it’s still so popular – I’ve seen it constantly at the top of Netflix charts, even beating out newer action movies!
2. Caught Stealing (2025)

After largely going unnoticed in theaters, Darren Aronofsky’s film Caught Stealing is now gaining recognition on Netflix. The movie follows a once-promising baseball player in the 1990s who gets mixed up in crime while looking after a friend’s apartment. It’s a wild, over-the-top story that’s different from anything else Aronofsky has directed.
While Caught Stealing isn’t perfect, it’s a creatively made film. Austin Butler gives a great performance, and the movie is a fun, fast-paced comedy thriller that’s perfect for watching at home. Despite not doing well in cinemas, it could become a real success on Netflix.
1. Anaconda (1997)

Now that the movie’s been unexpectedly re-released in theaters, it’s the perfect time to revisit the 1990s cult classic, Anaconda. The film follows a documentary team in the Amazon who are kidnapped by a hunter and forced to help him find a massive, legendary snake. Anaconda is a fun, classic animal attack movie that feels like a throwback to the enjoyable, over-the-top films of old Hollywood.
Anaconda is a classic, fun movie – the kind you watch for a good time and don’t overthink. Even though it came out almost 30 years ago, it’s still a really exciting and enjoyable watch. While Netflix has lots of horror options, Anaconda stands out as a uniquely entertaining film because it successfully combines different genres.
