Planning a movie night with Disney+ this weekend? Here are three great options, each relevant for different reasons. Last week, I recommended Daredevil, The Punisher: One Last Kill, and Predator: Badlands. That selection was focused on superheroes and established franchises, so this week we’re offering something a little different.
These two Marvel releases coincided with the end of season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again and the debut of Jon Bernthal’s first solo project within the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+. As of today, The Punisher: One Last Kill remains a top streaming hit around the world. FlixPatrol reports that this new Marvel special is currently the most-watched “movie” on Disney+ globally, which is a significant accomplishment.
Although that movie is still a good choice, Disney+ has many other films available to watch or revisit. Considering what was popular last week, I’ve added another Marvel movie – featuring a hero who will be important in 2026 – and continued the science fiction theme started by Predator: Badlands.
Disney+ subscribers have access to a blockbuster Marvel film, a groundbreaking sci-fi movie from a beloved franchise, and an action-packed adventure with a star-studded cast. These films span different genres and are all guaranteed to be thrilling and entertaining – you won’t find any slow-paced dramas here!
3. Holes (2003)
Holes is an adventure film starring Sigourney Weaver, Shia LaBeouf, Tim Blake Nelson, Patricia Arquette, and others. The story follows a group of troubled teens sent to a juvenile detention camp where they’re forced to dig holes all day. What they don’t know is that the warden is actually making them search for buried treasure.
Critics and audiences both loved Holes when it came out, giving it high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (77% from critics and 76% from viewers). Over 23 years after its theatrical release, the movie is popular again, currently ranking as the 10th most-watched film on Disney+ globally, according to FlixPatrol.
2. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Next up, we recommend Spider-Man: Far From Home, the second film starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. It’s a great time to watch because Holland will be back as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day this July, and a new Spider-Man TV series is coming out next week. That series, Spider-Noir, will feature Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly and will premiere on MGM+ on May 25th, then become available on Prime Video on May 27th.
If you’re excited for the new Spider-Man series on Prime Video, Spider-Man: Far From Home is a great movie to watch first! It’s full of action and introduces significant, surprising plot twists for Peter Parker, including a big reveal involving Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Mysterio. The film is highly rated, with a 95% audience score and a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
1. Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
Rounding out the list is a landmark science fiction film: Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. This movie concludes the original Star Wars trilogy, delivering a powerful and moving end to Darth Vader’s story. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia join forces to liberate the galaxy from the grip of the evil Empire. It’s a truly influential film that helped create the most popular sci-fi franchise ever.
If you’re a Disney+ subscriber, don’t miss these movies this weekend! They bridge the gap between previous Star Wars stories and The Mandalorian and Grogu. The new film continues Din Djarin’s journey, showing a galaxy where the New Republic is hunting down what’s left of the Empire. It’s a great way to connect everything and see what’s next for the Star Wars universe.
