If you’re looking for some fun this weekend, Disney+ has you covered with three movies spanning different genres. Last week, I highlighted some great options including Night at the Museum, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Those three suggestions came at just the right time, coinciding with the release of the new trailer for Ben Stiller’s Focker In-Law, the first look at Avengers: Doomsday shown at CinemaCon in 2026, and Spider-Man: No Way Home becoming available on Disney+. This week, I intentionally left out any superhero films. After featuring two last weekend, it’s good to offer something different.
This weekend, Disney+ is offering a diverse range of movies for its subscribers. Viewers can enjoy an action-packed adventure similar to Indiana Jones or Uncharted, a live-action fantasy film starring a well-known actor, and a visually impressive sci-fi movie that’s also the highest-grossing film in the genre ever made.
With April almost over, I searched for popular movies to enjoy before the month ends. One of them is currently gaining a lot of attention on Disney+. So, Disney+ subscribers can be confident they’ll have a great time watching all three films this weekend.
3. National Treasure (2004)
Let’s get ready for Nicolas Cage’s return to action! With his new series, Spider-Noir, coming to Prime Video in May, now’s the perfect time to revisit one of his most beloved films, National Treasure. It’s a fun and exciting movie to stream on Disney+ this weekend.
In National Treasure, Nicolas Cage plays Ben Gates, a historian who embarks on a thrilling quest to uncover a secret treasure linked to the founding of the United States. The Declaration of Independence is key to solving the mystery. The film also stars Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha, and has earned a 76% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it similar to the Indiana Jones franchise.
2. Maleficent (2014)
Next up is Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the famous Disney villain. This live-action film offers a new perspective on the classic Sleeping Beauty tale, but instead of focusing on Princess Aurora, it explores the story of Maleficent herself and reveals her heartbreaking past. It’s a brilliant example of how to make a villain relatable and gives a familiar story a fresh twist.
I’ve noticed Maleficent is really popular again lately – it’s currently the 6th most-watched movie on Disney+! People seem to be enjoying it, too, with a pretty good audience score of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s fun to see Brenton Thwaites, who I remember as Nightwing in Titans, playing Prince Philip, and it’s cool that Ella Purnell, who’s great in Fallout, shows up as a young Maleficent. Definitely a rewatch for me!
1. Avatar (2009)
Rounding out the list is the 2009 film Avatar, which remains the highest-grossing movie ever, earning $2.9 billion worldwide. This science fiction film launched James Cameron’s incredibly popular franchise, which now includes three successful movies. Avatar tells the story of Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and how his life is transformed as he explores and becomes involved with the alien world of Pandora.
Even now, the special effects in Avatar are incredibly impressive, making it one of the most visually beautiful science fiction films ever made. The movie is packed with exciting action and features a fascinating, detailed world. Critics give it an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences seem to love it even more, with a score of 82%. It’s a great choice to finish off your weekend with on Disney+.
