28 Years Later set photo reveals first look at Jack O’Connell’s controversial Jimmy character

28 Years Later spoilers follow.

A picture taken on the set of “28 Years Later” offers a glimpse of Jack O’Connell portraying his contentious character for the first time.

In the much anticipated follow-up film, O’Connell plays the role of Sir Jimmy Crystal – a charismatic figurehead who leads a group of followers, each bearing the same name as him.

The character’s appearance, featuring a bleached blonde wig, a tracksuit reminiscent of a shell suit, and a peculiar grin, has ignited debates due to its apparent similarities with Jimmy Savile – a former children’s entertainer who was later implicated in numerous posthumous accusations of sexual abuse.

According to franchise director Danny Boyle, it turns out that Sir Jimmy Crystal was based on the real-life character, Jim Savile.

He mentioned to Business Insider that he has equal connections to popular culture and sportswear, cricket, and the honors system.

In this hazy recall, I grasp at fragments and shape them into vivid images for those who follow me.

In recently shared backstage photos on Instagram, you can see O’Connell (specifically in pictures six and seven of the series) portraying his challenging character with a smile alongside his co-star, Connor Newell, who depicts one of the cult members.

In the Instagram post put up by MT Management on behalf of Newell, there’s a photo that includes the other cult members, all wearing identical wigs and vibrant tracksuits. Notably, O’Connell is seen kneeling at the center of this lively gathering.

It seems that the cult consists of a mix of men and women, including Emma Laird from The Brutalist and Erin Kellyman, who played a role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as part of its membership.

28 Years Later is out now in cinemas.

The debut print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” is available! Pick it up at your local newsstand or buy it online for only £3.99.
