28 Years Later does not bring back Cillian Murphy’s Jim
28 Years Later will not see Cillian Murphy return to reprise his role.
In 2002, the actor who received an Oscar starred in Danny Boyle’s initial apocalyptic film titled “28 Days Later” as the main character Jim. However, it has recently been verified that he will not reappear in the forthcoming sequel of the movie.
Producer Andrew Macdonald shared with Empire magazine that both parties desired his involvement. He wasn’t part of the initial film, but there’s anticipation for Jim to appear at some point down the line.
Despite not appearing on screen for 28 years, Oppenheimer played a significant role off-camera.
McDonald adds, “Currently, he’s serving as an executive producer.” He further expresses his hope that they might collaborate with him again on the trilogy in the future.
28 Years Later marks the beginning of a fresh trilogy, inspired by the initial movie directed by Danny Boyle and penned by Alex Garland. McDonald’s remarks seem to suggest that Murphy might reprise his role as Jim in either 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, scheduled for release in 2026, or the currently unnamed third film.
In simpler terms, the most recent version of events has firmly dismissed speculations among fans that Murphy might appear in the latest teaser for “28 Years Later.” This assumption was swiftly disproved by someone involved in the film’s production.
In the sequel, we find Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and Jack O’Connell as the main characters. This continuation of the story unfolds 28 years later, following the devastating effects of the virus that caused chaos in the initial movie.
In the preview, it’s shown that humanity has discovered a method for living alongside the infected, though this is maintained strictly through harsh quarantine regulations. However, when one survivor on a small island chooses to embark on a fresh journey, they uncover a multitude of hidden truths, marvels, and terrors.
The production for both initial movies was carried out consecutively, and it’s expected that “28 Years Later” will debut first in June 2025. Nia DaCosta is responsible for directing the second movie titled “Candyman”.
28 Years Later will be released in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
