28 Years Later 3 with Cillian Murphy gets an exciting update following “electric” reaction to sequel

Originally, “28 Years Later” was planned as the middle film in a three-part series, though only two movies were filmed at the same time. Now that the second film, “The Bone Temple,” is about to be released, we have some exciting news about the third installment.

Danny Boyle, who created the series and directed 28 Years Later, had said funding problems were holding up the third movie, but now it’s officially moving forward.

According to Deadline, Sony—the studio behind 28 Years Later and The Bone Temple—had the opportunity to make a third film, and has now officially given it the go-ahead.

What to Read Next

Following the success of 28 Years Later, which has earned over $150 million at the box office, early screenings of The Bone Temple – directed by Nia DaCosta, who also directed the Candyman remake – have generated excitement.

We don’t have a title for the third movie yet, and filming hasn’t been scheduled. Hopefully, it will happen soon.

Okay, so this is awesome news for any 28 Days Later fans like me! Cillian Murphy – you know, the guy who played Jim in the first movie – is coming back for the third one. Apparently, he’s also working on something called The Bone Temple, but honestly, I’m just hyped to see him back in the world of fast zombies!

It’s unclear exactly how important the character will be, but the director has confirmed that Spike, played by Alfie Williams, is the central figure throughout all three movies.

In the sequel, The Bone Temple, the protagonist is pulled into the dangerous world of Jimmy Crystal’s gang, led by Jack O’Connell, after leaving his home in the first movie.

In The Bone Temple, Ralph Fiennes’ character, Dr. Kelson, has a more significant role than in 28 Years Later, where he was an important supporting character.

Early reactions to the second film have been, as Deadline put it, “electric”.

I’ve been hearing amazing things from people who saw early screenings! Everyone’s really impressed with what director DaCosta has done – she’s definitely brought her own style to the franchise. Plus, people are saying Ralph Fiennes and John Boyega give incredible performances. Apparently, this movie is the most intense one yet, but it also adds a lot of cool new details and depth to the story we already know and love.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will release on 14 January in the UK and 16 January in the US.
