28 Days Later is finally being released digitally this week
As a die-hard fan of post-apocalyptic horror films, I can hardly contain my excitement about the digital release of “28 Days Later” this week! It’s been two decades since its initial release, and for far too long, it has been confined to physical copies or elusive streaming platforms. But now, on Wednesday, December 18, the world will once again be plunged into the terrifying chaos of a virus-ravaged society.
28 Days Later is finally being released digitally this week.
Since its debut in 2002, the post-apocalyptic horror movie has not been easily accessible for home viewing unless one possesses a physical copy of it.
Delightfully, fans can look forward to watching the movie online as it is set for release on digital platforms this coming Wednesday, specifically on December 18th.
The announcement about the movie was made on its official Instagram account on December 16th, with the fitting caption: “Time is running out.
Enthusiasts rushed to express their joy in the comments area upon the long-anticipated debut, with one exclaiming: “At last, I can see it once more!
One individual commented, “The people are happy,” another chimed in, and a third exclaimed, “I’m so relieved! I had been researching all weekend about why it wasn’t available on streaming yet. It’s great to know it will be coming sooner rather than later.
Under the guidance of director Danny Boyle, the movie titled “28 Days Later” featured Cillian Murphy portraying Jim, a bicycle messenger who finds himself in a coma-like state post an accident, only to discover upon waking that an unintentional virus outbreak had led to society’s collapse.
In 2007, a follow-up movie called “28 Weeks Later” hit the screens, and another film within this series is scheduled for release in June 2025.
28 Years Afterward finds director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland collaborating once more to craft an alarming narrative, which transpires 28 years following the unleashing of the “rage” virus from a bioweapons facility.
The movie initiates an entirely fresh trilogy, as director Nia DaCosta takes the helm for the second installment, based on a script penned by Garland and Boyle.
Joining Murphy as he returns in the zombie horror are stars such as Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O’Connell.
In a recent conversation with Deadline, Murphy shared insights on the influence of the franchise and hinted at returning to his character, Jim, in an unexpected manner.
Twenty-two years later, the initial movie remains as compelling as ever, and I’m absolutely ecstatic about reuniting the group to create a new one,” he expressed.
28 Days Later debuts for digital viewing on December 18th, while 28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20th, 2025.
