Initially, The Crimson Witnesses started as a modest gathering of Dota 2 enthusiasts during TI8 and has since evolved into a thriving global community of over 3,000 members. During TI2025, they raffled off 24 tickets, combining generosity with the thrill of uncommon Crimson Witness prize giveaways, making for an enticing event.

In the game Dota 2, something even more scarce than a Crimson Witness treasure is the unique community that bears the same name.

Initially, a small group of enthusiasts gathering in Vancouver evolved into a vibrant Discord community of around 3,000 people, who do more than just cheer each other on. During The International 2025, members of Crimson Witnesses graciously distributed 24 extra tickets among fellow fans, an act of kindness that came with the exciting prospect of rare prize drops.

What is the Crimson Witness Discord community?

The Crimson Witnesses organization was established back in 2018 at The International 8 in Vancouver, Canada. Conceived by enthusiastic Dota 2 fan Jazzy Josh, its purpose was to cultivate a supportive social network for individuals attending TI who were traveling on their own or with just a few companions.

During The International 8 (TI8), Discord community members would often gather at the arena, sharing meals during breaks between matches and coordinating post-game refreshments. Some even embarked on spontaneous pub crawls. A testament to their humble origins.

The members of the Crimson Witnesses Discord community found it convenient to connect and foster friendships. Instead of roaming the streets or retreating to a solitary hotel room after matches, they had a vibrant social alternative that truly embodied the essence of camaraderie.

Over the course of the next seven years, the Discord community grew in scale and in reach.

At each International event, it wasn’t just about competition, but served as significant steps forward for the group’s development. Crimson Witnesses gatherings were arranged for TI10 in Romania, TI11 in Singapore, TI12 in the United States, and TI13 in Denmark. Additionally, there was a TI12 viewing party, co-hosted with NADCL, where Saahil “Universe” Arora (one of the TI5 champions) and Peter “ppd” Dager were present.

As we grew together as a dedicated Dota 2 fan group, our regular meetings transformed into something truly meaningful – initiatives aimed at making a positive impact on the larger community. With The International 14 (2025) fast approaching, we’re thrilled to announce a brand new tradition in the making: offering free TI tickets as part of an annual initiative. Here’s to fostering even more camaraderie and giving back!

A new ticket donation tradition

In 2025, there was an increase in Crimson Witnesses members who purchased tickets but couldn’t attend the event. Some event days still had tickets available for sale, making it less appealing to buy second-hand due to uncertainty. However, this thriving Discord community came up with a solution.

What if ticket holders gave away their tickets for free?

Well that’s exactly what happened.

On September 5th, we randomly distributed 24 tickets generously donated among our Discord community members. However, there was a special condition: if any of these tickets resulted in a Crimson Witness treasure drop, the generous donor would be the one to reap the rewards.

Among the contributors was Dylan, also recognized by his nickname ‘Malibu’. He generously donated six tickets as a gesture of gratitude towards a community that has significantly backed his success in the field of Dota 2 casting.

Two years past, I got an opportunity to participate in my inaugural LAN event, specifically The International 12 in Seattle. Being a long-term enthusiast of Dota, this experience only fueled my passion for the game and its community even more.

Dylan told Xpsp, “My volunteer work with the Crimson Witnesses and NADCL in our Side Shop and Turbo Mode at the TI LAN event helped me get started on my journey of creating the popular game.

Over the last two years, I’ve been greatly supported. This encourages me to give back, and the response has been fantastic! Our community is thriving, and our dedicated fans are seizing opportunities to be part of a remarkable environment during events at the arena.

I’m quite lucky to have the opportunity to make a small, yet beneficial impact on the electronic sports community, which we all find incredibly captivating.

The value of rare Dota 2 treasure

To clarify for those who might not know yet, the Discord group we’re referring to is called the Crimson Witness, a title borrowed from an exceptionally scarce and exclusive in-game item in Dota 2.

During TI events alone, these prized possessions can be obtained. To have a shot at winning one, you need to be present at the TI playoffs and witness a first victory live. Indeed, it’s an opportunity only for those who are in attendance – a special event drop.

Within the Crimson Witness chest lies exclusive, limited-edition TI variants of pre-existing Immortal items, which are the scarcest form of Dota 2 cosmetics. The chest can be traded or sold in the marketplace for approximately $100 to $120 USD.

The longer you keep your treasure, the more valuable it could become when sold. In fact, previous drops from the Crimson Witness, like Spectre’s Transversant Soul, have been successfully sold for over $1,000 USD.

In essence, showing kindness towards another Dota 2 enthusiast and Crimson Witnesses member could potentially bring luck back to the one who donates the ticket. It’s a beneficial situation for everyone involved.

Looking ahead to 2025, I find myself proudly part of a thriving community – the Crimson Witnesses Discord! Boasting an impressive 3,000 members, our collective strength has unlocked numerous benefits and opportunities that we’ve been able to negotiate together. Together, we stand strong!

At The International 2025 in Germany, the Crimson Witnesses are organizing a Community Gathering featuring dinner. Additionally, they’re arranging arena meal deliveries through group orders to sidestep expensive “arena food” prices, a concept they first experimented with at an ESL One Berlin event.

In this community, the vibrant Discord events are overseen by a dedicated team consisting of NinjahTigah, Jazzy Josh, Nev3r, Sebbby, Kyrias, MeepMerp, and Solavi.
