24 most anticipated movies coming out in 2025

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours in cinemas and even more hours discussing films with fellow cinephiles, I have to say that I am most excited for “Wicked: Part Two.” Having seen the original stage production, I was absolutely blown away by the creativity, the storytelling, and the sheer emotional impact of the music. To be able to see Elphaba’s journey continue on the big screen, with Cynthia Erivo reprising her role as the green-skinned sorceress, is a dream come true for me.

Instead of waiting throughout the year to find out about upcoming films from Hollywood, many movie enthusiasts head straight to the July and December lineups as they tend to feature the most highly anticipated releases – these periods are known for hosting the grandest blockbuster movies.

2025 promises an exciting lineup with several highly-anticipated movies kicking off the year. Mark your calendars for what’s shaping up to be a memorable cinematic experience. Time will only reveal more!

At TopMob, our cinematic companions regularly brainstorm some intriguing film suggestions monthly. We’ve done the legwork to make your movie exploration an enjoyable adventure. Consider it a festive surprise for your holiday stocking!

Wolf Man (January 17)

Jason Blum is undeniably an expert in the realm of horror movies. Under the umbrella of his production company, Blumhouse, Universal Pictures is gradually reviving their initial attempt at the “Dark Universe” project.

Rather than blasting off with traditional fanfare, Blum opted for a subtler and impactful twist in his contemporary adaptation of The Invisible Man. Five years on, another classic monster will receive the Blumhouse touch – this time it’s the Wolf Man. Mark your calendars for January as this is not a movie to miss!

Captain America: Brave New World (February 14)

24 most anticipated movies coming out in 2025

A Captain America sequel seems to perfectly capture the essence of romance and public displays of affection, doesn’t it? This time around, even the Hulk has taken on a love-struck shade of red. Marvel certainly hasn’t missed a beat with their planning.

For approximately six years now, Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie, has taken on the powerful role left behind by Steve Rogers. In this upcoming film, we’ll witness him embracing this role fully and living up to his destiny as a central Avenger. He faces significant challenges in the storyline, engaging in confrontations with The Leader, Red Hulk, and the enigmatic character played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Sinners (March 7)

The duo of Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, who previously collaborated on the critically-adored Marvel film “Black Panther” in 2018, will join forces once more for a chilling vampire-themed thriller/horror movie slated to hit screens next March.

These trailers, intriguingly keeping much of the storyline under wraps, seem to promise an explosive hit at the box office, akin to a Spring Break extravaganza. Joining Jordan and Coogler on screen will be Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Wunmi Mosaku.

Snow White (March 21)

This Disney live-action reboot has stirred up some debates, but it’s set to hit cinemas this coming spring nonetheless. Regardless of who ends up being the ‘fairest one of all’, Disney is optimistic that families everywhere will sing “Heigh-Ho” their way to the box office.

It’s worth noting that out of the approximately 20 live-action adaptations of their original animated films, only two – The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast – have earned more than half a billion dollars.

A Minecraft Movie (April 4)

In the wake of April Fool’s Day, the legendary fools of the gaming world will grace the silver screen. Stars such as Emma Meyers, Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge have been cast in The Minecraft Movie. While the specifics of the plot remain under wraps, anticipation for this upcoming gaming film is palpable. It’s confirmed that the Overworld will play a role, along with a humorous adventure reminiscent of Jumanji.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that so far, this beloved franchise has amassed an impressive $3 billion. In a few short months, Mojang Studios is aiming to bump that figure up by another billion, which is truly exciting!

Mickey 17 (April 18)

Previously, Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho received a flurry of Oscars at the start of 2020 for his groundbreaking movie “Parasite”. Excitingly, we learned that his upcoming space comedy was set to premiere in December 2022. Later, it was planned for release in March 2024. For a while, there were hints it would be screened in global theaters in January 2025. However, now it’s April and there seems to be no sign of it yet.

“Perhaps Robert Pattinson can remind audiences that they were once invested three years ago.” This version maintains the original meaning while sounding natural and easy to understand.

Thunderbolts (May 5)

In a new team formation, Yelena Belova, taking on the role of the new Black Widow, alongside Bucky Barnes as Winter Soldier, Alexei Shosatkov as Red Guardian, John Walker as U.S. Agent, Antonia Dreykov as Taskmaster, and Ava Starr as Ghost are uniting. This group appears to be opposing Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, with a possible conflict also involving the team’s namesake, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

This one has been generating favorable early reviews, so here’s to the hopes that Marvel’s unconventional team of non-superheroes live up to expectations this summer. Brace yourself for an action-packed, humorous adventure filled with surprises and hidden references.

Lilo & Stitch (May 23)

In another try at bringing animated enchantment into reality, we will soon witness the intriguing tale of an extraterrestrial who crash-lands, now set within the real world. This mysterious figure is discovered by a charming native Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai, portrayed by Maia Kealoha.

Will the fun-filled antics on the island attract audiences to the cinema? Since it’s a Disney film, we can certainly expect that. However, whether it will prove to be financially successful is another matter altogether.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (May 23)

Stepping into the shoes of a devoted fan, I eagerly find myself once again sprinting alongside Tom Cruise as the inimitable Ethan Hunt, thanks to our collective choice to witness this exhilarating saga each time it graces our screens. As we approach the supposed “final act,” there’s a lingering sense of melancholy for the die-hard fans of this franchise, but with an all-star cast that includes Haley Atwell (Grace), Simon Pegg (Benji), Vanessa Kirby (Alanna), Ving Rhames (Luther), Pom Klementieff (Paris), and Esai Morales (Gabriel) joining Cruise on this mission, the non-stop action never fails to impress.

P.S. Notice the release date. Good luck with that, Disney.

Karate Kid: Legends (May 30)

The retirement plan for Ralph Macchio is now underway in earnest. With the popular throwback series Cobra Kai reaching its conclusion on Netflix, it might be worth giving the big screen one more shot.

In a thrilling twist, we find ourselves in the year 2025 with an updated mentor figure, now known as Mr. Han, and the timeless character of Daniel-san still standing tall. This duo seems poised to create another masterpiece, much like the original recipe that keeps on baking with outstanding results. I can’t wait to see this collaboration unfold during the exciting blockbuster season!

Ballerina (June 6)

The thrilling world of John Wick is expanded as we delve into a new storyline featuring Ana de Armas, who’s undergoing training from the Ruska Roma. It’s a clandestine criminal organization headed by “The Director” (Anjelica Huston), which was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

It’s uncertain exactly where this upcoming neo-noir action film might explode in June, but there’s no doubt that it will make a massive impact if it sticks to the Keanu Reeves template – and yes, he’ll be starring in it too.

Elio (June 13)

When Pixar is involved in a project, it’s always met with warm welcomes. Their latest creation is a computer-animated universe set in space, where the character Elio (Yonas Kibreab) finds himself as Earth’s Ambassador, an unexpected role after a casual alien abduction. The story promises to strike a delicate balance between emotional depth and a powerful soundtrack, offering insightful introspection that resonates with everyone. Somehow, just like Disney and Pixar often do, this film will likely include a poignant parental character’s demise. Enjoyable family entertainment!

How to Train Your Dragon (June 13)

2025 won’t pass without Dreamworks cashing in on ticket sales for their upcoming action-packed animated-to-live-action feast. This might just be their most captivating franchise since the Shrek era. Introducing Hiccup (played by Mason Thames), his father Stoick (portrayed by Gerard Butler, sporting a genuine beard), and a CGI version of Toothless.

Under the direction of Dean DeBlois once more, it’s likely that the melodies tugging at your heartstrings will resonate with a familiar rhythm as How To Train Your Dragon graces movie screens globally, potentially striking a chord with cash registers.

F1 (June 25)

Do you recall the thrilling movie, “Top Gun: Maverick”? The action sequences, visuals, script, and overall production? The same producer, Lewis Hamilton, has now produced a movie on Formula 1 Racing, which is currently seeing a surge in television viewership.

To attract attention beyond Formula One enthusiasts, the film boasts an impressive cast including Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damian Idris, and Tobias Menzies. So, this movie might just prove that F1 is not merely a testosterone-fueled event, but could be a great cinematic experience as well.

Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2)

Approximately five years after the release of “Jurassic World Dominion,” and with velociraptors still a figment of our imagination knocking on doors for dinner, we’ll be greeted by the next installment in the franchise, titled “Jurassic World Rebirth.” In this fresh adventure, helmed by Gareth Edwards (known for his work on Godzilla, Star Wars: Rogue One, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), a new group of characters embark on a mission to a new location, where they’ll collect DNA from recently discovered prehistoric species.

Featuring Johnathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Ed Skrein, this movie is expected to come very close to the impressive milestone of $1 billion at the box office, potentially launching a fresh instalment in the renowned series that seems destined for an enduring legacy.

Superman (July 11)

It cannot be overstated enough – the life of DC Comics at the movies (along with WBD getting them there) and James Gunn as a genius is on the line when Superman hits theaters. David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern, Guy Gardner), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Frank Grillo (Rick Flag), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), and even a cameo from Will Reeve will all work tirelessly to make this film everything it is hoped (and prayed) to become.

Could it spontaneously earn $750 million just out of sheer curiosity? If so, it would become the most triumphant solo Superman film to date, potentially setting a positive tone for the DC Universe. Might we see the Man of Steel soaring even higher?

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25)

Despite global nerds eagerly awaiting July 11, another film will face intense examination two weeks later. To suggest that depictions of Marvel Comics’ original family have been disappointing would be an understatement. Kevin Feige acknowledges this and intends to address it. His cast is impressive, featuring Pedro Pascal (as Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and even Robert Downey Jr., who should generate interest and boost earnings. However, one may wonder about his character – who does he play again?

Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Movie (August 8)

24 most anticipated movies coming out in 2025

In a nutshell, those three words (possibly “announcement” or “release”) attract popular actors from Hollywood, who buy tickets from their fans once they hear about it. This project will mark Paul Thomas Anderson’s tenth endeavor and his debut on the IMAX screen. The captivating cinematography and wide-ranging shots are expected to create an awe-inspiring visual experience. There’s speculation that Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti might be part of this storyline.

He’s earned every award but one with Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love, The Master, and There Will Be Blood. This could be the one for the Oscars to give him “Best Director.”

Thread: An Insidious Tale (August 29)

24 most anticipated movies coming out in 2025

In 2025, Jason Blum is back, revisiting the chilling narrative of one of his most successful films, “Insidious.” After the initial movie in 2010, interest and ticket sales started to dwindle, but the series persisted until 2023 with “Insidious: The Red Door.” Now, Jason Blum has vowed to restore its spine-tingling excellence. Will he manage to do so?

It’s possible that a horror movie released during the summer could spark more conversations and attract larger crowds to discussions about it.

The Bride (September 26)

Under the direction of Maggie Gyllenhall, the film titled The Bride offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, portrayed by Christian Bale, who finds himself with a new companion. Although Jared Leto’s Joker may come to mind, let’s focus on the story for now. The narrative transports us to 1935 and delves into a gothic tale where a woman who has been resurrected from the dead (Jessie Buckley) plays a significant role.

In addition to Maggie, other characters in the movie who have yet to reveal their roles include her brother Jake, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening. Regardless of whether it’s rated PG-13 or R, this film promises to be a captivating exploration into the human mind.

Michael (October 3)

Antoine Fuqua, famed for films like ‘Training Day’, ‘The Equalizer’ series, and ‘King Arthur’, is set to potentially ignite the Oscar race in 2026 with his upcoming project – a Michael Jackson biopic. This director has a knack for creating movies that captivate audiences, skillfully narrating raw stories, and never shying away from sparking debate. Indeed, this biopic seems poised to deliver on all these fronts.

Michael’s actual nephew Jaafar takes on the lead role in this movie, and he’ll be joined by Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, Jessica Sula portraying LaToya Jackson, Kat Graham playing Diana Ross, Derek Luke as Johnnie Cochran, and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones. Without a doubt, this film is set to dominate headlines leading up to Halloween.

TRON: Ares (October 10)

In the upcoming tech-focused adventure, Jeff Bridges returns, accompanied by Jared Leto and Cameron Monaghan – two actors who interestingly portrayed The Joker in separate DC productions.

In the upcoming third chapter of Flynn’s arcade and digital fantasy series, they are delving into the complexities of artificial intelligence, with Leto serving as a rogue program attempting to infiltrate human consciousness and potentially hunt for, and eliminate, its targets.

Wicked: Part Two (November 21)

The excitement about Emerald City has been building for six months now, and tickets are flying off the shelves faster than items at a yard sale! We can’t wait for the follow-up, and it looks like we’ll soon be seeing the talented cast and crew again for Wicked: Part Two, promising an equally captivating continuation of their smashing stage performance. If you’ve already seen it, you know this next installment is destined to be a resounding success with the brilliant Cynthia Erivo taking the helm.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19)

Once more, we embark on this journey. James Cameron is preparing to scale the peak of “Top Earning Films in History.” With the excitement generated by the Avatar series up until now, box office earnings are expected to exceed $1.5 billion, leaving the world astounded once again by the enchantment of Pandora.

Say what you will; James Cameron makes mesmerizing movies. This should be no exception.
