Kate Beckinsale is fantastic as Selene, the vampire assassin, and the role really launched her action career, sparking a whole franchise. Critics weren’t impressed when it first came out – it only scored 30% on Rotten Tomatoes – but audiences loved it, giving it a 79% rating. It’s a movie that knows exactly what it is and embraces it.
