Sue and Noel Radford, a large family known from television, recently announced their sixth vacation in just six months. This announcement led to criticism from some fans who accused them of being insensitive and flaunting their wealth.
The family known from “22 Kids And Counting” upset many of their followers when they voiced their disappointment about a cancelled trip to Dubai earlier this week.
However, just a few days later, Sue, age 50, and Noel, 55, shared that they had changed their travel plans and instead flown to the Canary Islands.
The TV couple shared a photo from the airport on Facebook and Instagram with the caption: ‘A couple of nights away.’
The image, which had EasyJet planes in the background, showed a glass of bubbly and a beer.
Everyone wondered where Sue and Noel were going, but they kept their destination a secret. They didn’t share any details until they posted a picture showing lush, tropical plants.
Instead, they questioned: ‘Where will we end up?’
People on social media reacted negatively to the post, with some suggesting the individuals involved were excessively wealthy.
Someone commented that this person is rarely home, always traveling and seems to have plenty of money. They dismissed it all with a casual, ‘Who cares?’ and added that they’re off on another vacation.
People criticized Sue for an insensitive comment she made about her cancelled trip to Dubai, especially considering the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
She caused a stir online when she posted about a weekend getaway to the UAE that her children had gifted to her and her husband, Noel, with plans to travel on Wednesday.
Recent escalations between Israel and Iran, with both sides launching attacks, have created chaos and forced international citizens to urgently leave the affected areas.
She asked if anyone else was having trouble with Travelup1, guessing many people were experiencing issues.
The phone line isn’t working, so it seems they’ve disconnected it. They aren’t responding to emails either. We’ve left comments on their Instagram page, but they’ve been deleting them – and many other customers are also expressing their dissatisfaction.
Sue, who has now received a response from the travel company, explained that while she understands they are safe, rebooking isn’t possible because the company isn’t addressing the issue.
She explained that the main reason for her post was to express her dissatisfaction with the company’s practice of switching off phones, suggesting that while many people wouldn’t want to reschedule, this wasn’t an acceptable way to handle it.
However, commenters were still unhappy by the post, as ‘people are dying’.
People are taking shelter in places like hotel rooms and basements,” someone reported. “Many others are stuck and worried about their safety. Your vacation plans aren’t important at the moment.”
Getting your refund or a replacement isn’t our main focus right now. It’s important to have travel insurance and be covered by Atol/Abta – that’s how you’ll get your money back. For now, please be patient and wait for an update.
Perhaps consider the people currently experiencing hardship; it’s hard to believe you’re focused on vacations when there’s a war happening.
It’s incredibly insensitive to complain about holiday plans when people are facing real danger and loss. With lives at stake and a war happening, worrying about a trip to Dubai seems incredibly out of touch.
‘Hmm very egocentric post this one is. Think off all the stranded people over there. Pfft!’
Over the last year, Sue and her family took at least eight vacations, traveling to places like Lapland, Italy, the Caribbean, Florida, Paris, and Dubai.
With global events causing real hardship for many, is it appropriate for social media influencers to complain about problems they face while traveling, or does it seem insensitive?
