’21 years, no notes’: Keeley Hawes marks wedding anniversary with Succession star husband Matthew Macfadyen with smitten snaps and gushing tribute

The 49-year-old actress posted several loving photos with her partner, the 50-year-old star of Succession, and wrote a sweet message about their relationship.

The photos included charming scenes of the couple on a perfect boat ride, sharing affectionate moments at a pub, and Matthew playfully posing on a lawnmower.

Keeley shared a heartfelt message declaring her love after 21 years, simply writing: ‘Love you with all my heart ✨’. She didn’t feel the need for any further explanation.

Keeley and Matthew have two children together, Maggie, who is 20, and Ralph, 19. Matthew also helps raise Keeley’s 25-year-old son, Myles, from a previous relationship.

This couple is famous for having a remarkably solid marriage in Hollywood. They consistently prioritize their relationship, even with their busy careers.

However, Matthew admitted things didn’t begin well, once calling the moment he fell for Keeley ‘awful’.

Keeley met Matthew on the set of the TV show Spooks in 2002, shortly after marrying cartoonist Spencer and welcoming their son, Myles.

Matthew eventually confessed he developed feelings for Keeley while filming the BBC spy series. However, he emphasized that they didn’t become involved romantically until after her breakup with Spencer in May 2002.

In a 2005 interview with the Mail on Sunday, he clarified that he and the woman were not having an affair, but that developing feelings was a gradual process. He admitted being very attracted to her, describing her as gorgeous and saying that anyone who meets her would agree.

Keeley has admitted to having romantic feelings for Matthew while they worked on Spooks. She told Vanity Fair in 2022 that Matthew unexpectedly confessed his love for her one rainy day, saying, ‘I love you,’ which she found a bit awkward.

She finalized her divorce from Spencer in 2004, and later that year, she married Matthew in a small ceremony at the Richmond registry office. A month after the wedding, they welcomed their first child, Maggie.

The couple recently shared that they’re excited about what comes next in their relationship once their children have grown up and moved out.

Matthew expressed his excitement about spending more quality time with Keeley and taking lots of short trips together when they have more free time.

In a July 2024 interview with CBS, he described this stage of life as a fresh, exciting chapter. He joked about needing ‘mini-breaks,’ contrasting the intense demands of raising young children – when it feels like it will last forever – with the reality that things eventually change.

Then you realize, thankfully, the people you’re with are genuinely kind, humorous, and aren’t afraid to both make you smile and keep you in line.

The star went on to admit this is the first time his children have been interested in his work. 

Matthew admitted they don’t often watch each other’s work, and their kids aren’t interested in what they do either. He found that a little disheartening, but said it’s a good reminder to stay grounded.
