The trailer for the next Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping, is coming soon. The film will show the 50th Hunger Games—a special edition known as the second Quarter Quell—which took place 24 years before the events involving Katniss Everdeen. These games were famously won by Haymitch Abernathy, who was portrayed by Woody Harrelson as a troubled, alcoholic character in The Hunger Games.
Okay, movie fans, get ready! I just saw a post from Daniel Richtman over on Patreon saying we’re finally getting our first glimpse of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping! Apparently, the trailer drops this Thursday, November 20th. I’m so excited to see what they’ve got planned for this 2026 film!
Lionsgate has kicked off a year-long anticipation campaign for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, with the movie scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026 – exactly one year after the release of this initial teaser trailer.
Joseph Zada will portray a young Haymitch in Sunrise on the Reaping. He’s part of a stellar cast that also includes Whitney Peak, Ralph Fiennes, McKenna Grace, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, and Kieran Culkin.
What to Expect from The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’s First Trailer?

Filming for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping just started in Spain in late July and is still ongoing. Because of this, the first trailer will likely be very short, offering only quick looks at the characters and exciting scenes without revealing much of the story.
Okay, so everyone’s going to be watching Ralph Fiennes step into the role of President Snow – especially those of us who remember his chilling performance as Voldemort in Harry Potter. He’s taking over from Tom Blythe and the iconic Donald Sutherland, and let me tell you, the first glimpse of him in character on the set of Sunrise on the Reaping – plastered on a Panem propaganda banner, no less – was seriously striking. It’s a smart move, and I’m already intrigued to see what he brings to the part.
The first trailer for the new Hunger Games movie is part of a growing trend started by director Christopher Nolan with his upcoming film, The Odyssey. Like The Odyssey, which is about to release a second trailer, studios are now showing off big movies almost a year before they hit theaters. The Odyssey is scheduled to premiere on July 17, 2026.
Marvel Studios is joining the rush to release trailers, planning to debut the first look at Avengers: Doomsday alongside the December release of Avatar: Fire & Ash. It appears other major studios, like Lionsgate, also want to share their biggest 2026 trailers before Avatar 3 hits theaters. Given that the previous two Avatar films earned over $2 billion worldwide, Avatar 3 is expected to be a massive box office success, making this a prime time to promote upcoming movies.
