It looks like the return of the character in “Daredevil: Born Again” was just a taste of what’s to come. Jon Bernthal has officially confirmed that he will once again take on his highly acclaimed Marvel role, that of former First Lieutenant Francis David Castle, better known as The Punisher among fans and New York City’s criminal underworld, in an unprecedented way!
Bernthal’s distinctive style will mark his role as Ol’ Frankie in three upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects slated for 2026: “Daredevil: Reborn” Season 2, a special presentation of “The Punisher”, and “Spider-Man: Fresh Start”. Notably, these projects are the only live-action releases within the MCU that year for each character. In an impressive feat, Frankie is the sole character to potentially achieve an EGOT-like status in one year within the MCU.
In 2019, it was the last time the stars aligned in such a way, and the only means of doing so was through film. That year, Samuel L. Jackson played Nick Fury three times, with his most significant supporting role being in Captain Marvel. In this movie, Jackson portrayed a previously desk-bound SHIELD agent who returned to action to aid a woman with memory lapses, who identified herself as Vers. This woman was actually Carol Danvers, reclaiming her identity and power as the one and only superhero.
Later, Wrath made a brief appearance in the movie “Avengers: Endgame“, attending Tony Stark’s funeral as a tribute to the first member he had recruited for the Avengers program. Although his composure was clearly shaken, he maintained a focused gaze towards potential future resources.
In the movie “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” the very same character, Peter Parker, was faced with a challenge. Fury, or someone pretending to be Fury, intervened during his school trip and tasked the teenager with a mission instead.
In essence, specific details about The Punisher’s roles in 2026 remain scant or even undisclosed, however, I can give you an idea of what sort of action this skull-adorned marksman might be involved in come next year.
The Punisher’s 2026 MCU Projects Explained
The Punisher Special Presentation

For the first time since three years ago, Marvel is set to unveil another standalone presentation on Disney+. This upcoming special will focus on The Punisher and it’ll be the third one in the MCU’s roughly 45-minute format, continuing from Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, both of which were released on Disney+ towards the end of 2022.
Details regarding Frank’s upcoming appearance remain scarce, owing to Marvel’s usual penchant for maintaining confidentiality. However, it’s rumored that he will face off against a female criminal mastermind alone in an upcoming battle.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

The initial season of Disney+’s rebooted series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” concluded in April on a rather somber note. The most formidable, persistent, and toughest opponent of Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, now holding the position of New York’s Mayor, executed his grandest, most malevolent plan: Declaring martial law over the city, imposing a stringent curfew on every resident, and unleashing the heavily armed enforcers of his personal Anti-Vigilante Taskforce onto the streets with orders to shoot on sight.
As Matt concentrates on assembling a force to confront Fisk, Frank Castle could find himself joining forces with the Man of Hell’s Kitchen once more in Daredevil: Born Again. Initially, their objectives were somewhat similar during the first season, but Matt was captured by Fisk’s henchmen and imprisoned in the mayor’s secret dungeon.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It appears that after the magical erasure of Peter Parker’s planetary memories, the Web-Slinger has persisted in his duty to protect NYC. This explains why the recent announcement about Spidey’s role in the upcoming MCU film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, comes as such a surprise, as the next installment, Spider-Man 4, will team up its hero with an unexpected partner: Frank Castle. This character is known for his reckless approach and disregard for safety.
In simpler terms, Jon Bernthal will once again take on the role of The Punisher in the film titled “Brand New Day“, marking his third project in 2026 where he unleashes a series of violent acts within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, rumors circulating online hint at a confrontation between characters Castle and Parker and an out-of-control Hulk, who appears to have lost any trace of Bruce Banner’s control.
