2025 Met Gala: Unbelievable Fashion Moments That Stunned the World!

Today marks the start of the first week in May, signifying the grandest event on the fashion calendar – the Met Gala.

This year, the theme for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala is “Superb Tailoring: The Impact of Black Style,” inspired by the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition that delves into how clothing styles have shaped Black identities.

Drawing inspiration from Monica Miller’s 2009 book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Expression of Black Diasporic Identity“, this exhibition delves into Black fashion trends spanning three centuries, centered around the idea of dandyism. The dress code for the event, “Tailored for You,” is a playful reference to the exhibit’s emphasis on men’s clothing. This dress code, according to the museum, serves a dual purpose: it offers guidance while also encouraging creative self-expression.

Every year, the haute couture event brings together celebrities, fashion experts, and trendsetters to walk on the red (or blue with yellow and white flowers) carpet set up on the famous Met steps in New York City’s Upper East Side. Notable attendees who embodied the evening’s theme and dress code were co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, each sporting outfits that showcased a variety of styles. For instance, Colman Domingo wore a deep blue Valentino cape which seemed to honor the late fashion icon André Leon Talley’s 2011 Met Gala outfit, while Pharrell Williams donned a pearl blazer that took inspiration from “the Black men of the working class,” as he described it himself.

Despite being appointed as an honorary chair, NBA superstar LeBron James announced on Monday that he won’t be able to attend the gala because of a knee injury sustained during the last game of the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff series. However, he mentioned that his wife, Savannah James, will represent him instead.
