2025 election results gives Disney World the open door to change Hall of Presidents
As a seasoned Disney park enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed the evolution of the Magic Kingdom like no other. The Hall of Presidents (HOP) has always held a special place in my heart, but I must admit that its location at Liberty Square seems increasingly outdated and disconnected.
In Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Liberty Square is gradually losing its significance. Previously, a Muppet-themed “USA” show was a main attraction in this area, but now it serves merely as a connecting pathway to other parts of the park. The only remaining fixture from Liberty Square that still draws crowds is the Hall of Presidents.
There’s been much discussion about the possibility of the HOP being phased out. Despite contemplating modifications to the animatronic historical exhibit, Disney has maintained a connection to Abraham Lincoln, keeping it in operation ever since the park’s opening due to Walt Disney’s admiration for him.
This year, Disney found themselves in a predicament. If Joe Biden had remained in the race, Disney could have swiftly cancelled the event and transformed it into a Muppets-themed spectacle, as rumors suggest. However, with Biden withdrawing, Disney had to observe whether Kamala Harris would win the election instead. Should she have triumphed, Disney might have felt more compelled to maintain the show, highlighting the first female president. Unfortunately for Disney, neither scenario transpired, and should they decide to close it down now, there would be significantly less opposition.
The Hall of Fame offers much charm, and for those who haven’t visited all these years, it serves as an engaging way to explore American history and artifacts in its lobby. However, it’s worth noting that its continued presence in M.K. might not be essential.
Disney should make a three-park trade with the Hall of Presidents.
It’s understood that HOP may be shutting down, but why close it permanently? Perhaps Disney could relocate this attraction to EPCOT instead, allowing for some adjustments tailored for the American Pavilion. The animatronics don’t necessarily need to move their heads when named or address the sitting president, and there’s room for improvement in terms of engagement, especially on sweltering days like a 100-plus degree day where the current American Experience falls short.
For the second phase of this project, let’s transfer the Muppets from Hollywood Studios to Liberty Square. We’ll update the 3D movie and use the theater where HOP previously played for a more engaging Muppet-themed experience for our guests. If Disney intends to have the Muppets in Magic Kingdom, all we need to do is relocate them from Hollywood Studios.
In Hollywood, Disney might relocate the Star Wars experience from Animation Courtyard to the space currently occupied by the Muppets 3D show, which is between Star Tours and Galaxy’s Edge. This arrangement would logically group these areas together and create three new or updated locations for attractions that are currently situated too far apart in the parks.
