Exclusive: The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon director Daniel Percival talks “bioluminescent zombies” in season 2 finale

As a passionate film aficionado, I must say that season 2 of “The Walking Dead” focusing on Daryl Dixon, dubbed as “The Book of Carol“, was simply outstanding television. The French revolution reached its boiling point, with Daryl (Norman Reedus), Isabelle, and Laurent standing right in the heart of it all, while Carol (Melissa McBride) embarked on a transatlantic journey with Ash, yearning to reconnect with Daryl.

Slaveroad

John Edgar Wideman’s unique autobiography, titled “Slaveroad“, delves into not just his personal life, but also the lives of African men and women who were transported to America via the transatlantic slave trade. This work masterfully blends memoir, autofiction, history, and poetry. It starts by detailing the travels of individuals such as William Henry Sheppard, a descendant of enslaved Virginians who became one of the first African Americans to serve as a missionary for the Presbyterian Church in Africa in 1890.

Health and Safety

Emily Witt, an employee at New Yorker, pens her first memoir titled “Health and Safety,” providing a witty perspective on her mission to explore various psychedelic substances extensively. In 2013, having been on a prescription antidepressant that fueled her affection for stimulants, Witt embarked on her initial ayahuasca experience – a psychoactive beverage originating from South America. With candor, the self-proclaimed Midwestern nerd recounts her transformation into a fervent supporter of psychedelics such as LSD, MDMA, mushrooms, and ketamine following the “primal” taste of ayahuasca. She humorously mocks herself for considering herself a “responsible” drug user due to using them only for self-reflection, believing it elevated her above those who used drugs for pleasure. However, her cautious pursuit of altered states of consciousness became less enjoyable with the election of Donald Trump, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and her boyfriend’s mental breakdown. “Health and Safety” offers a thought-provoking account of a woman seeking understanding in an increasingly chaotic world.
