2024 full Olympic boxing results: Who won gold in Paris?

As a seasoned boxing enthusiast and someone who has followed the sport for many years, I must say that the 2024 Olympics in Paris was a truly unforgettable event. The sheer talent and determination on display was nothing short of inspiring.

As the Paris 2024 Olympics come to a close, we conclude another thrilling Olympic Boxing Competition. This year’s games witnessed the triumphant return of some well-known athletes claiming gold, as well as newcomers seizing their moment in the spotlight with medals of their own. Social media was abuzz with viral controversies that made international news headlines. Tragically, we also lost a beloved Samoan coach, Lionel Elika Fatupaito. Ultimately, it was the incredible boxing skills displayed by talented athletes from across the globe that united us all for this spectacular event.

There can be no denying that the Uzbekistan men’s team was the standout performer, as they secured an impressive five out of seven gold medals across the weight categories. Given their rich history of success, it is hardly unexpected that many Uzbekistani fighters have previously clinched Olympic gold or excelled in prestigious tournaments such as the World Championships and the Asian Games. Similarly, the Chinese women’s team also showed their dominance by winning three golds and two silvers, managing to medal in five out of six weight classes.

1. At the Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Olympics, the U.S. boxing team secured a total of seven medals, but this year they could only bring home one bronze medal through Omari Jones. It’s important to note that the U.S. team hasn’t historically performed exceptionally well in recent Olympic games. Compared to their past achievements, four medals (three silver and one bronze) in Tokyo 2020 and three medals (one gold, one silver, and one bronze) in Rio 2016 seem more impressive. Therefore, it might be unrealistic to expect the U.S. team to dominate boxing. Similarly, Team Great Britain experienced a dip in performance this year, with Lewis Richardson earning only a bronze medal.

As a passionate gamer, I was really looking forward to witnessing the skill and determination of female boxers at this year’s Olympics. However, the spotlight seemed to shift unfairly towards two talented athletes, Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, due to unfounded speculations about their gender identities.

Men’s flyweight

  • Gold: Hasanboy Dusmatov UZB
  • Silver: Billal Bennama FRA
  • Bronze: Junior Alcantara DOM, Daniel Varela de Pina CPV

Dusmatov won his second golden medal, having previously taken one in Rio 2016. Varela de Pina made history as Cape Verde’s first-ever medal winner.

Men’s featherweight

  • Gold: Abdumalik Khalokov UZB
  • Silver: Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu KGZ
  • Bronze: Charlie Senior AUS, Javier Ibanez BUL

Recently, Khalokov has been unstoppable in his performances. In fact, he already boasts a gold medal from the 2023 World Championships, the 2022 Asian Games, and the 2022 Asian Championships under his belt.

Men’s lightweight

  • Gold: Erislandy Alvarez CUB
  • Silver: Sofiane Oumiha FRA
  • Bronze: Wyatt Sanford CAN, Lasha Guruli GEO

In a remarkable show, Alvarez outshone three-time Olympic medalist and host nation’s pride Oumiha in France. Meanwhile, Sanford made history as the first Canadian boxer to secure a medal in 28 years.

Men’s welterweight

  • Gold: Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev UZB
  • Silver: Marco Verde MEX
  • Bronze: Omari Jones, USA, Lewis Richardson GBR

In the semifinals, Muydinkhujaev emerged victorious in a close match against Jones. However, throughout the competition, he clearly outperformed everyone else to secure the gold medal. Jones and Richardson were the only boxers to win medals for the United States and Great Britain, respectively.

Men’s middleweight

  • Gold: Oleksandr Khyzhniak UKR
  • Silver: Nurbek Oralbay KAZ
  • Bronze: Cristian Pinales DOM, Arlen Lopez CUB

In the Tokyo games, Khyzhniak, who previously won the silver medal, demonstrated unyielding determination and ultimately secured a hard-won gold. On the other hand, two-time gold medalist Lopez was surpassed by Khyzhniak in the semifinals and ended up claiming the bronze in his third Olympics.

Men’s heavyweight

  • Gold: Lazizbek Mullojonov UZB
  • Silver Loren Alfonso AZE
  • Bronze: Enmanuel Reyes ESP, Davlat Boltaev TJK

Mullojonov, similar to other compatriots from Uzbekistan, effortlessly claimed the gold medal. In contrast, Tokyo bronze medalist Alfonso significantly enhanced his previous Olympic performance by securing a silver medal this time around.

Men’s super heavyweight

  • Gold: Bakhodir Jalolov UZB
  • Silver: Ayoub Ghadfa ESP
  • Bronze: Nelvie Tiafack GER, Djamili-Dini Aboudou Moindze FRA

Jalolov, just as anticipated, effortlessly claimed his second golden medal. Here’s hoping he competes for the heavyweight championship in the near future.

Women’s flyweight

  • Gold: Wu Yu CHN
  • Silver: Buse Naz Çakıroğlu TUR
  • Bronze: Nazym Kyzaibay KAZ, Aira Villegas PHI

Wu Yu maintained her reign over global competitions, with previous victories at the 2022 Asian Games, 2023 World Championships, and most recently, the 2024 Olympics. Meanwhile, Çakıroğlu secured a silver medal once more in her second appearance at the Olympic Games.

Women’s bantamweight

  • Gold: Chang Yuan CHN
  • Silver: Hatice Akbaş TUR
  • Bronze: Pang Chol-mi PRK, Im Ae-ji KOR

Yuan was the initial Chinese female to secure a gold medal in boxing, while Wu Yu claimed another gold the very next day.

Women’s featherweight

  • Gold: Lin Yu-ting TPE
  • Silver: Julia Szeremeta POL
  • Bronze: Esra Yıldız TUR, Nesthy Petecio PHI

At just 20 years old, Szeremeta was among the youngest boxers competing in the Olympics, but he couldn’t keep up with the experienced and contentious Yu-ting. The returning Tokyo silver medalist, Petecio, ended up winning bronze after getting defeated by Szeremeta in the semifinals.

Women’s lightweight

  • Gold: Kellie Harrington IRL
  • Silver: Yang Wenlu CHN
  • Bronze: Wu Shih-yi TPE, Beatriz Ferreira BRA

In Tokyo, gold medalist Harrington clinched her second gold and decided to retire soon after. Meanwhile, Ferreira, who won silver in Tokyo, secured the bronze following a semi-final re-match loss to Harrington.

Women’s welterweight

  • Gold: Imane Khelif ALG
  • Silver: Yang Liu CHN
  • Bronze: Janjaem Suwannapheng THA, Chen Nien-chin TPE

Leaving the debate behind, Khelif appeared invincible as she clinched the gold medal. I’m eager to witness her future endeavors and watch how her tale continues to unfold.

 Women’s middleweight

  • Gold: Li Qian CHN
  • Silver: Atheyna Bylon PAN
  • Bronze: Caitlin Parker AUS, Cindy Ngamba EOR

1) In Paris 2024, Qian clinched the Olympic trifecta by taking gold, while previously earning silver in Tokyo 2020 and bronze in Rio 2016. Meanwhile, Ngamba made history as the first athlete to secure an Olympic medal for the Refugee Olympic Team (EOR).
