A highly acclaimed high school drama is now available on a major streaming platform after a change in where it was originally shown.
Good news for fans of Friday Night Lights: all five seasons are now available to stream on Prime Video! The show joined the 2004 movie on the platform on January 1st, making it easy to binge-watch from home.
The television series Friday Night Lights, created by Peter Berg, was the third adaptation based on H.G. Bissinger’s 1990 book, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream. The book explored the world of high school football in Odessa, Texas. The show focuses on the players of the Dillon Panthers football team, along with their coaches, families, and the people around them.
Okay, so Friday Night Lights… that show was amazing. Kyle Chandler absolutely nailed the role of Eric Taylor, the new coach for the Panthers, and Connie Britton was fantastic as his wife, Tami, who also started as a guidance counselor at Dillon High. But honestly, the whole cast was incredible – Aimee Teegarden, Jesse Plemons, Zach Gilford, Gaius Charles, even Michael B. Jordan was in it! Plus, you had Madison Burge, Taylor Kitsch, and Adrianne Palicki – a seriously talented group of actors. They all just made the show.
Critics and viewers have consistently praised Friday Night Lights. Currently, the show boasts a 97% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and each season has received approval ratings ranging from 92% to 100%.
During its most popular years, Friday Night Lights received numerous award nominations and ultimately won 16. Key wins included a Primetime Emmy for Kyle Chandler as Lead Actor in a Drama Series, a Satellite Award for Connie Britton as Best Actress in a Drama Series, and a Star of Texas Award from the Texas Film Hall of Fame.
What the Future May Look Like for Friday Night Lights
For years, there’s been talk of bringing back Friday Night Lights. Now that Peacock has officially announced a reboot of the 2006 series, many of the original cast members have shared their reactions. Back in January 2025, one star, when asked about participating, simply said, “I’ve been asked, and we’ll leave it at that.”
Kitsch said he’s always honored when people ask about returning, and he’s open to the possibility. He’d consider appearing in an episode or two, but he doesn’t want to be the star of a full “Friday Night Lights” reboot.
Connie Britton, who also appeared in the 2004 Friday Night Lights movie, said she hadn’t given the upcoming reboot much thought. She expressed hope that the new actors will enjoy the experience and find fulfillment in their work on the show.
Friday Night Lights is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
