17 Controversial ‘South Park’ Episodes Banned from Paramount+ Launch!

Fans in the U.S. can look forward to marathoning numerous episodes of the show on Paramount+ starting in July. However, it seems that certain “highly-praised” or “most loved” episodes from this frequently controversial yet hugely popular animated series won’t be available for streaming.

As per a recent update on X by Physical Media Forever, it is speculated that the series will launch on the platform without 17 episodes due to their alleged censorship or removal. The affected episodes are said to include “Big Gay Al’s Big Boat Ride” (Season 1), “Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus” (Season 2), “Cancelled” (Season 7), “Trapped in the Closet” (Season 9), and “Jewpacabra” (Season 16). The main query regarding the exclusion arises as to why? Few viewers watch South Park without anticipation, given the age of numerous episodes. It would be astonishing if anything less controversial than previous episodes weren’t found among those that are accessible. Following reports of a “ban,” many fans have criticized Paramount for deleting “some of the greatest episodes.

Are ‘South Park’ Episodes Really Getting Banned?

At present, Paramount has not yet officially confirmed if these episodes will indeed be absent from the South Park series when it returns this summer. Many have also dismissed the notion that a show known for its unapologetic approach to content might alter itself to appease critics and lose its distinctive South Park identity.

Although South Park can be streamed in various places like Canada and the UK, the missing episodes reportedly absent from the upcoming U.S. line-up are also not available on those platforms. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the long-running animated series South Park, have often felt grateful for their continued success over three decades. Much of their tenure has been spent in anticipation of someone eventually halting production. In an interview from 2021, Stone himself acknowledged this, stating:

For three decades, there’s always been the possibility of our show getting canceled. This constant uncertainty affects who works on it. However, throughout this period, we’ve been handling various challenges that come with producing the show. Despite these difficulties, we can’t really complain because things have been running smoothly for us. These experiences provide us with material and topics to discuss.

In essence, although the series hasn’t been terminated and it has had considerable leeway throughout its almost 30-year run, certain episodes have experienced some alterations due to censorship concerns or complications related to contracts and rights.
