The Scream movies are one of the most beloved horror series ever made, and they’ve stayed popular for three decades. After a long break in the 2010s, the series made a successful comeback in 2022. The new film brought back familiar faces alongside a fresh cast, delivering plenty of unexpected twists, scares, and becoming both a critical and commercial success.
This has allowed the Scream series to continue, and the newest movie, Scream 7, is starting to show in theaters tonight. Early predictions suggest it will be a big hit, and fans are eager to see Neve Campbell reprise her role as Sidney Prescott facing off against a new Ghostface. The buzz is so strong that one of the older Scream films is now getting a lot of attention on streaming services.
Scream VI Is The #2 Trending Movie On Paramount+ Ahead Of Scream 7’s Release
With the upcoming release of Scream 7, fans are revisiting the earlier Scream films, all of which are available on Paramount+. This has caused Scream VI to jump in popularity on the streaming service, currently ranking as its second most-watched movie, just after Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, according to FlixPatrol.
For the past week, people have consistently shown interest in Scream VI, keeping it among the top 10 movies globally. Today, it’s jumped to second place in almost every country. The United States is an exception, where it currently ranks fourth, having moved up from seventh yesterday.
However, the latest Scream isn’t the only one performing well on Paramount+’s list of popular movies. The 2022 Scream reboot is currently number six globally, and it held that same position yesterday.
Considering they’re the latest installments, it’s a good idea to watch the previous two Scream movies before seeing Scream 7, particularly if you’re revisiting the whole series. Both films are excellent and successfully update the story while respecting its roots and taking the franchise in fresh directions.
Watching Scream VI Before Scream 7 Could Be Bittersweet
A key thing to understand before seeing Scream 7 is how important Scream VI (and the 2022 Scream) are to the overall story. These movies center on the characters of Sam and Tara Carpenter, and their storylines are clearly set up to continue in future installments, especially as Scream VI concludes.
Despite being fan favorites, neither Neve Campbell nor Jenna Ortega will be in Scream 7. While revisiting their characters is enjoyable, their absence might disappoint viewers of the new film. The decision to focus on Sidney Prescott as the lead came after Melissa Barrera was let go, prompting Ortega to also leave the series.
Currently, Scream VI wraps up the story of the Carpenter sisters, for now. If you’re watching it now that it’s available to stream and are getting ready for Scream 7, don’t anticipate the next movie picking up where their story left off.
