16 Years Later, Lost Fan Favorite Finally Addresses Controversial Finale

Many people consider this show to be one of the greatest ever made, even though the final episode was controversial. Sixteen years later, one of the show’s actors has finally spoken about how it ended.

Daniel Dae Kim, known for his popular role as Jin on the TV show Lost, recently discussed the series finale. Speaking at the Gold Gala in Los Angeles with People magazine, Kim said he actually found the ending “really satisfying,” even though some fans didn’t agree.

The actor said his main concern was the characters, and he was particularly happy they all ended up together in the series finale.

He explained that those final scenes were particularly meaningful, allowing the actors to share a proper farewell with each other. He found that very rewarding.

Similar to other shows from the early to mid-2000s, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and One Tree Hill, Lost faced accusations of sexism, racism, and a toxic work environment. These issues came to light in a 2023 Vanity Fair article where writers and actors shared their experiences.

The actor expressed continued fondness for the sci-fi drama, despite any challenges during production. He acknowledged there were issues – some he wasn’t even aware of at the time – but emphasized the positive impact it had on his life and career. ‘I made friends for life on that show, and it did more for me professionally than anything else,’ he said.

The actor said that the show Lost opened doors for him like nothing else, and he believes he wouldn’t have achieved his current success without it.

Kim said he stays in touch with several of his former ‘Lost’ co-stars, including Henry Ian Cusick and Josh Holloway. He especially bonded with the actors who played the characters who tried to escape the island on the raft at the end of the first season, and they still keep in contact.

He confessed he hasn’t had a chance to watch it again yet, but he plans to soon.

Lost Was a Major Hit

Even though some viewers are still debating how the show ended, ABC’s unique drama was a huge success. The fact that people are still talking about the finale, more than fifteen years later, shows just how much fans loved it.

The TV show Lost first aired on ABC in 2004 and quickly became a hit. Over six seasons, it won ten Primetime Emmy Awards and other honors before concluding on May 23, 2010. Critics generally loved the show, giving it an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes across all seasons, while viewers rated it even higher at 89%. The sixth and final season received slightly lower scores, with 68% from critics and 80% from audiences.
