16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis ‘missed son’s funeral after showing up late when service had started’
16 and Pregnant celebrity Whitney Purvis is said to have been absent from her son Weston Jr.’s funeral, following his unfortunate passing at 16 years old, about two weeks after she publicly announced his death.
During the first season of the MTV reality show, Weston Jr. was warmly greeted by Whitney, who was in a tumultuous relationship with Weston Gosa at the time. This duo, who later had their second child, a son named River (age 11), were part of an on-again, off-again romance throughout this period.
Just recently, my heart broke into pieces when my beloved child, Weston, took his last breath. He was merely 16 years old. The world seems so unkind and unjust to me now; I simply can’t grasp it. Oh, the unfairness of life!
Amy Gosa, the boy’s stepmother, posted on Facebook that they woke their son around 7 am that day and found him unresponsive, not breathing. She mentioned he had multiple health problems, including diabetes. Later, Weston Sr. disclosed that the death certificate stated his son passed away due to natural causes.
According to a source close to Whitney, it’s been reported that she was not allowed to attend her son’s funeral due to a misunderstanding. Weston Sr. said the service began at 4 pm, but when Whitney arrived, she was told it had already started at 2 pm and she wasn’t on the guest list.
According to TMZ, Weston Sr. argues against her account of the situation, asserting that he informed Whitney about the viewing being at 2 PM and the service starting precisely at 4 PM. However, it’s reported that she arrived after 4:15 PM, a time when the chapel doors were already closed, as per Weston Sr.’s claim.

According to a source close to Whitney, they were informed upon reaching the chapel in Georgia on Saturday that the ceremony had commenced at 2pm sharp. The source also claimed that the entirety of Whitney’s relatives were denied access to the occasion.
In my professional capacity as a lifestyle advisor, let me clarify that I explicitly communicated to Whitney and every guest in attendance that the funeral service was scheduled to commence promptly at 4 PM, following the viewing which was set for 2 PM.
A week ahead of time, as he mentioned, he reached out to Whitney to extend an invitation for the service. However, he also made it clear that attendance would be limited due to strict control over the guest list.
According to Weston Sr., several relatives of Whitney, including her mom, aunt, and uncle, showed up at 3 pm and managed to participate in the funeral.
He asserted that Whitney arrived after 4:15 PM, only to find the chapel doors securely locked and the funeral director informing her the service had already begun, thus preventing her entry. In response, she expressed her anger.
Approximately at 5:10 PM, Weston Sr. claimed that Whitney started sending him texts, calling him “evil” because he prevented her from attending the memorial service of their shared son.
According to his account, she asserted via text message that she wasn’t on the guest list. In response, he sent a photograph suggesting that she was indeed included in the guest list.
According to Weston Sr., out of kindness, they, along with Amy, have bought an individual urn where some of Weston Jr.’s remains will be stored, which Whitney is allowed to keep separately.

Earlier this month, when word spread about Weston Jr.’s passing, his stepmother Amy Gosa shared on Facebook: ‘We’re still unaware of the reason, but they’ll conduct an autopsy soon. All we can confirm is that around 7 am this morning, we tried to wake him up and found he wasn’t breathing. We attempted CPR immediately and called for an ambulance.’
She mentioned further that the paramedics likewise tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), transported him to a hospital located in Gordon County, and subsequently declared him deceased. Additionally, it’s worth noting he had multiple health complications, including diabetes.
In the post where she shared the news about her son’s passing, Whitney expressed: “My precious child has left me, and I am at a loss as to how to go on. He was absolutely flawless. Unfortunately, this terrifying nightmare I have feared is now a reality.
What is one possible way to continue living after the tragic loss of a child? She finds herself in shock, struggling to accept this devastating reality. It seems unbearable and surreal to her. If only there was a way to somehow grasp him once more, anything would be worth it. The depth of her sorrow cannot be put into words,” she continued.
‘Oh, Weston Owen Gosa, I adore you immensely. My heart overflows with love for you. Watching you grow into such a remarkable young man filled me with immense pride. I find it unbearable to live without you now. Rest in Peace, my cherished angel. It’s too soon for you to leave us. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.’
In his own eulogy, Weston Sr. expressed: ‘You’ll remain my little boy forever. I’ll spend the remainder of my life carrying you in my heart. Oh, how I wish this was all just a terrible nightmare. Now, you’re free from the complexities that burdened you for the past six years or so. Soar high, sweet boy, daddy loves you beyond what you could ever comprehend.’
Amy Gosa’s post said: ‘We are completely heartbroken and in shock. It was so unexpected.’
She remarked, “The greatest sorrow I’ve known is losing a child, and I pray that I won’t have to endure such pain again.
Amy went on to say: “He was an exceptional son, incredibly intelligent, witty, and full of promise. It still seems unbelievable.
She expressed: ‘Let’s remember and hold in our hearts and prayers both our family and Whitney, during this time of sorrow as we recall the extraordinary, radiant life of our dear son. Gratitude to you all.’
In a different message, Whitney expressed, ‘Goodbye, my darling Weston. My affection for you is eternal, sweetheart. I’ll never grasp the harshness of life’s ways. You’ll forever remain my little one.’

Weston was born while his parents, Whitney and her then-boyfriend, Weston Lewis Gosa, were featured on MTV’s show “16 and Pregnant” during its first season.
Although the series eventually led to the creation of MTV’s Teen Mom series, it was Whitney and Ebony Jackson who were among the few moms not chosen to be part of that show, with Whitney being one of them.
Weston Owen Gosa Jr., their second son named River, was born on April 2, 2009, to Whitney. Regrettably, they separated shortly before River’s birth in 2014.
Ultimately, Whitney no longer has custody of her two sons, who now live with Weston Sr.; she was taken into custody last year due to unpaid child support.
Previously, Weston Senior has been apprehended several times due to operating a vehicle with a revoked license, whereas both Weston Senior and Whitney were detained back in 2012 for damaging electronic devices.
