16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis breaks silence after missing teenage son’s funeral

On Wednesday, Whitney Purvis voiced her thoughts, some time after being unable to attend the funeral of her teenager son, Weston Gosa Jr., who passed away sadly earlier this month.

As one who’s always open about my journey, I felt it necessary to clarify recent rumors swirling around regarding a supposed altercation with Weston Gosa Sr., concerning access to our shared son’s services. In truth, the story has been misrepresented, and I wanted to set the record straight for all who follow along on my path.

According to a report from TMZ, it was claimed that Gosa Sr. informed Purvis that the funeral would commence at 4 p.m. on Saturday. However, upon her arrival, she found out that the service had already begun at 2 p.m., and moreover, she was not included in the guest list.

Senior Gosa contested that account, explaining to the media outlet that he had informed Purvis the viewing was scheduled for 2 p.m., and the service would commence at 4 p.m. However, he asserted that she arrived after 4:15 p.m., a time when the chapel doors were already closed.

Currently, Purvis is countering with a heated social media statement, implying that Gosa Sr. deliberately excluded her from the event.

She penned down a lengthy message, expressing her long-suppressed feelings. For years, she’d allowed her son’s father and his spouse to malign her online and fabricate stories to portray her in a negative light. However, this time, she decided to speak up for herself.

She added, “Nobody should endure what they subjected me to. To set the record straight, let me clarify some matters… The events that transpired during the weekend were particularly challenging as my son’s funeral took place on Saturday.

My son’s biological parent shared with me that it would be in the afternoon, and for your information, our connection is quite strained. Despite my persistent efforts to build a better rapport, he’s consistently rebuffed any overtures I’ve made, and seems determined to cause me distress at every turn.

It might seem reasonable to set aside our disagreements when someone like young Weston is facing such a difficult time, wouldn’t it? Yet, unfortunately, it seems we can’t escape the usual drama.

It turned out that a guest list restricted access to the funeral. Unfortunately, neither I nor any of my loved ones were included on this list, and thus, we were denied entry. I have multiple witnesses who can attest to this, including myself, as well as others who heard the funeral home confirm that my name was not on the list.

Purvis then alleged, ‘It wouldn’t matter what time I got there—I wasn’t getting in.’

“Not only was that unfair, but they twisted the truth even further by claiming I arrived two hours late to his funeral, when I knew it started at 2. Frankly, that’s absurd! I would never do such a thing. Use your common sense – who in their right mind would show up two hours late? I was informed it began at 4, so why would I tell everyone to arrive at 4?”

‘The truth is he didn’t want me there or my family and friends,’ she alleged.

DailyMail.com has not received a response to its request for comment from Weston Gosa Sr.

In his statement, Purvis asserted that not only distant acquaintances but also close relatives such as a cousin who contributed towards funeral costs were denied entry at the service.

It was claimed that Gosa Sr. decided who could participate and excluded her from the guest list, even though he required her legal approval for their son’s cremation.

In a more positive and respectful manner, I might have expressed it like this: “It’s truly unfortunate that such actions were taken. Instead, let’s focus on the joy and affection we share for Weston, celebrating our mutual admiration for him.

She further implicated Gosa Sr., alleging that he was disregarding the court’s visitation rulings concerning their kids and tarnishing her reputation as a capable parent on social media.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’ve been there myself – strapped for cash and unable to afford the necessary legal help when faced with financial troubles. It’s a challenging predicament that many people find themselves in, and it can feel overwhelming. However, it’s important to remember that there are resources available to help navigate such situations.

She mentioned that her major challenge was lack of wealth, explaining that it prevented her from having the same advantages as Gosa Sr., including legal assistance and familial support.

Regardless of the challenges she faced, she firmly maintained that she was a nurturing, actively involved mom. She always made birthdays and holidays memorable, and she cherished the moments she shared with her kids.

Considering the unfortunate passing of their son, Purvis alleged that Gosa Sr. exhibited a momentary display of goodwill towards her, in order to persuade her into agreeing to cremation documents. However, once her agreement was secured, she stated he reverted back to behavior that she described as having a malicious or unkind nature.

She said he promised to give her a portion of Weston’s ashes but ultimately withheld the urn.

At the end of her post, Purvis admitted her shortcomings as a parent, yet firmly believed that she shouldn’t have had to experience the hurt she has.

She expressed her sorrow, as she’s recently lost her son. For him to act in such a way towards her is abhorrent and utterly wicked, she stated.

According to Western Gosa Sr., he clearly told Whitney Houston and everyone else who was invited that the funeral service would begin promptly at 4 pm, following the 2 pm viewing.

As a lifestyle guide, I always emphasize the importance of clear communication and planning ahead. A week prior to an event, I would personally reach out to someone like Whitney, extending an invitation to join me. At the same time, I’d make sure to inform her that this gathering would feature a carefully managed guest list to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

According to Weston Sr., several relatives of Whitney, including her mother, aunt, and uncle, showed up at 3 pm and participated in the funeral ceremony.

She asserted that Whitney arrived after 4:15 pm, only to find the chapel doors locked and the funeral director informing her that the service had already begun, preventing her entry. In response, she expressed her anger.

Approximately at 5:10 PM, Weston Sr. claimed that Whitney started messaging him, accusing him of being ‘cruel’ for preventing her from attending the memorial service for their shared son.

According to what he says happened, she declared via text messages that she wasn’t on the guest list. In response, he sent an image showing that she indeed was included.

On the basis of kindness, Weston Sr. mentioned that they (Weston Sr. and Amy) bought an individual urn containing some of Weston Jr.’s remains, which Whitney is allowed to retain separately.

Earlier this month, when word spread about Weston Jr.’s passing, his stepmother Amy Gosa shared on Facebook: ‘We haven’t yet discovered the reason, but they will be performing an autopsy soon. All we can confirm is that we woke up around 7 am and couldn’t rouse him; he wasn’t breathing. We attempted CPR and called for an ambulance.’

She mentioned further that the paramedics also tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), then transported him to a hospital located in Gordon County. Unfortunately, they declared him deceased upon arrival. Additionally, it’s worth noting that he was dealing with multiple health complications, including diabetes.

In the heartfelt message she shared about her son’s passing, Whitney expressed: “I have lost my precious child, and I am at a loss as to how to move forward. He was flawless in every way. Unfortunately, this is a horrifying realization of my deepest fears becoming a reality.

What is the best way to move forward when you’ve lost a child? It seems unreal and painful, almost as if it’s not happening at all. I long to have him back in my arms. No words can capture the grief that overwhelms me,” she lamented.

‘I adore you immensely, Weston Owen Gosa. Oh, how I cherish you so deeply. You’ve always been the core of my being. I was beaming with pride as I watched you grow into such a remarkable young man. It’s unbearable to carry on without you. May you find eternal peace, my dear angel. Your time here was far too brief. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.’

In his own eulogy, Weston Sr. expressed: ‘You’ll remain my little boy forever in my heart. I’ll spend the rest of my days with your memory. Oh God, if only this was just a terrible nightmare. Now you’re free from the complexities you faced for the past six years or so. Soar high, my dear son, daddy loves you far beyond what you could ever comprehend.’

Amy Gosa’s post said: ‘We are completely heartbroken and in shock. It was so unexpected.’

She also mentioned, “The greatest pain I’ve known comes from losing a child, and I pray never to endure that heartache again.

Amy went on to say: “He was an exceptional son I could ever wish for. He was intelligent, witty, and full of life’s possibilities. It’s hard to accept that this is true.

She expressed her sentiment as follows: ‘Let’s remember our family, including Whitney, in your reflections and petitions during these difficult times, as we grieve the loss of such an exceptional, bright life that was our beloved son. I appreciate your understanding.’

> In a different message, Whitney expressed, “Goodbye, my little Weston. My affection for you remains eternal, dear one. I’ll never grasp the harshness of life. You will forever remain my baby.

Weston was born during the initial season of MTV’s series ‘16 and Pregnant‘, as the son of Whitney’s then-boyfriend, Weston Lewis Gosa.

Although the series eventually led to MTV creating the Teen Mom franchise, Whitney was among only two mothers who were not chosen to be part of it, alongside Ebony Jackson.

On the 2nd of April, 2009, Weston Owen Gosa Jr. entered the world, and his mother Whitney welcomed their second child, a son named River, in 2014 – not long before they parted ways once more.

Eventually, Whitney ended up losing guardianship over both her sons to Weston Sr., and she was apprehended the previous year due to missed child support obligations.

Previously, Weston Sr. has faced arrests not just once but several times due to driving with a revoked license. In the year 2012, both Weston Sr. and his daughter Whitney found themselves arrested for destroying electronic devices.
