14-Year-Old Sarah Jessica Parker’s Secret Life at Studio 54 Revealed

At the tender age of 14, Sarah Jessica Parker stumbled upon an uncommon advantage from playing Annie on Broadway: access to the most elite nightclub in New York City, which happened to be in 1979.

As a devoted admirer looking back, I shared the vibrant scene of Studio 54, yet it remains enigmatic in its essence, as I recently reminisced to Vulture on this very day.

‘We would just walk around, mouths agape.’

Sarah went on to say, “We were just typical kids too. At a spot called Joe G Pizza, five dollars would get me a slice and a drink, leaving me four dollars for the arcade. There was a booth filled with nuts, candies, Skee-Ball, and pinball games. I even earned the nickname ‘Pinball Parker’.

In 1978, I had the privilege of embodying the role of an orphan named July and understudying Annie. From 1979 to 1980, I was honored to take on the lead role at the Alvin Theatre, now known as the Neil Simon Theatre, situated in Midtown Manhattan.

2021 saw a seldom-shared photo emerge from the Emmy award-winning personality, who was pictured at Studio 54 alongside Ray Bulger, an actor famous for his role in The Wizard of Oz.

A long time in the past, I was Annie and he was the Scarecrow. This was many years ago. The occasion? A party at Studio 54, a memory from decades past, as Sarah, with her massive 9.8M Instagram followers, shared in her caption for this throwback post.

I can’t remember the reason, but it doesn’t matter. The fact is, I danced with Ray Bolger. Thanks so much for reminding me, Sasha Charnin Morrison! It’s heartwarming to be reminded of this memory.

In 2017, Sarah met up with the first-ever Broadway “Annie” – Andrea McArdle – and 17 other past Annies. During their gathering, she mentioned that they often visited Studio 54 back in the day.

‘We would all go,’ the 61-year-old Tony nominee told Inside Edition.

‘Right next to us would be Bianca Jagger, Michael Jackson, Andy Warhol. We were 13.’

At a popular venue known for its indulgent atmosphere, celebrities and attractive guests were often granted immediate entry, while other regular people were referred to as ‘undesirables’ by co-owner Steve Rubell when determining access to the club.

It’s said that, back in the late 1970s, Oscar-nominated actor Alec Baldwin spent about two months serving tables at Studio 54. At the same time, Al Corley, known for his role on Dynasty, held a job as a doorman there.

Visitors reportedly indulged in open, sexually explicit behavior on both the balcony and the VIP area downstairs. Additionally, there were allegations of excessive use of cocaine and quaaludes within the club, which remained open from 10 PM until 6 AM.

Studio 54’s golden age endured for less than three years due to its co-owners Rubell and Schrager being imprisoned for tax evasion, having hidden approximately $2.5 million (representing about 60% of the profits) from their income in 1980. However, both were released on parole after only a year, with Schrager later receiving a Presidential Pardon in 2017.

In the upcoming summer season on Max, Parker will serve as executive producer once more and resume her character as affluent widow writer Carrie Bradshaw, in the third installment of Michael Patrick King’s Sex and the City revival titled And Just Like That.

At the end of season two, Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett) explained to Carrie that he required a five-year absence from their relationship due to the need to prioritize his attention towards his troubled teenage son, following her decision to sell her cherished West Village apartment to accommodate his three sons.

According to Variety, the founders of the SJP Collection, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis each made a 10 million dollar salary for their role as executive producers and stars during the first season. It is unknown if they have been given a pay raise since then.
