Servant
- Release years: 2019-2023
- Created by: Tony Basgallop
- Starring: Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, Toby Kebbell, Rupert Grint
- Streaming on: Apple TV+
Among the TV series I’ve enjoyed most in the last ten years, one that stands out is “Servant”, a chilling psychological horror set in Philadelphia. This gripping tale revolves around a married couple with a newborn baby who bring in a nanny to help them at home. Initially appearing sweet and innocent, the nanny soon gives hints of being more complex than she seems. It doesn’t take long before it becomes apparent that there is something amiss with her. As layers of her mysterious past unravel, the couple’s hidden secrets start surfacing as well.
Servant is very creepy, very unpredictable, and an addicting binge-watch.
The Haunting series
- Release years: 2018-2020
- Created by: Mike Flanagan
- Starring: Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas
- Streaming on: Netflix
In terms of one of Netflix’s finest original productions, Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology series, starting with The Haunting of Hill House, stands out as a remarkable achievement. Spanning over two seasons, the second installment, The Haunting of Bly Manor, emerged two years later. Both shows are based on renowned literary works, depicting haunted houses that exert an unsettling influence on their inhabitants. Boasting talented ensemble casts, both series delve into themes of unconventional families, love, grief, and the mysterious supernatural. The deep narratives promise to captivate viewers from start to finish.
As a devoted fan, I must say that both these chilling series have an undeniable eeriness about them. To this day, the spine-tingling shock from The Haunting of Hill House continues to be a hot topic among horror enthusiasts.
American Horror Story
- Release years: 2011-present
- Created by: Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk
- Starring: Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Denis O’Hare
- Streaming on: Hulu
No, not every season is a winner, but the fact that American Horror Story has been on for 13 years (and counting!) is pretty awesome. Another anthology, each season of AHS tackles a different theme full of frightening storylines. From ghosts and serial killers to clowns and witches, if there’s a horror theme out there, chances are this show has covered it. Unfortunately, that’s probably why the show has decreased in quality in recent seasons, but that doesn’t take away from how strong the original seasons are.
Among the most outstanding seasons of “American Horror Story” are “Murder House,” “Asylum,” and “Coven,” which happen to be the initial three in the series. The beauty of this show lies in the fact that each season presents a unique, self-contained storyline, allowing viewers to select episodes based on subjects that pique their curiosity. Over the past 13 years, these seasons have delivered numerous memorable moments and engaging narratives.
Interview With the Vampire
- Release years: 2022-present
- Created by: Rolin Jones
- Starring: Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Eric Bogosian, Bailey Bass, Delainey Hayles
- Streaming on: Netflix (season 1), AMC+ (seasons 1 and 2)
Derived from the acclaimed gothic horror series, “Interview With the Vampire,” this outstanding terror-filled show is one you’re missing out on. The plot revolves around a man residing in 20th Century New Orleans, who, seeking a fresh start, consents to transform into a vampire. The narrative unfolds as we delve into his life as an immortal being, exploring his tumultuous relationship with the vampire responsible for his transformation and the events that ensue when he eventually breaks free.
Despite the fact that “Interview With the Vampire” has horrifying aspects, at its heart it’s a deeply moving and beautiful love story that will undoubtedly stir strong emotions within you. The acting is exceptional as well. However, there is no confirmed release date for a third season at this time.
Castle Rock
- Release years: 2018-2020
- Created by: Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason
- Starring: Melanie Lynskey, André Holland, Bill Skarsgård, Lizzy Caplan, Elsie Fisher, Barkhad Abdi
- Streaming on: Hulu
Among the anthology series listed, “Castle Rock” on Hulu stands out as one of the most underappreciated. This original series ingeniously combines a myriad of tales penned by Stephen King, seamlessly blending diverse storylines and characters to craft something entirely fresh. The risky approach pays off, making it an engaging watch for me, being a devoted fan of King’s literature. What makes this two-season show even more captivating is the presence of esteemed actors like Sissy Spacek and Tim Robbins, who have starred in iconic films based on King’s works.
Clearly indicated by its title, “Castle Rock” is set in a fictitious town created by Stephen King, subtly peppering the series with delightful Easter eggs drawn from his various works across the episodes.
True Blood
In the world of gaming, I’m here to share some trivia about a captivating TV series I stumbled upon. This gem was primarily unfurled between 2008 and 2014, created by the talented Alan Ball. The series, known for its intriguing plotlines, features an exceptional cast including Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, and Sam Trammell. If you’re curious, you can catch this riveting show on Max.
Among my most cherished television series across all genres, including horror, is the enticing vampire drama “True Blood” from HBO. This captivating show is consistently enjoyable to revisit and is based on “The Southern Vampire Mysteries,” a series written by Charlaine Harris. The story revolves around a waitress with telepathic abilities whose world is dramatically altered when a vampire enters her restaurant. Following the invention of synthetic blood, vampires have become part of society, although they still face challenges in acceptance.
In the series “True Blood”, we witness a romantic relationship unfold between a human and a vampire, while they face potentially harmful obstacles along the way.
Stranger Things
- Release years: 2016-present
- Created by: Matt and Ross Duffer
- Starring: Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Noah Schnapp
- Streaming on: Netflix
Since it first aired eight years ago, Stranger Things has taken the world by storm for good reason. The sci-fi series set in the 1980s fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, masterfully draws viewers into the lives of its characters while maintaining our interest through nail-biting suspense and intense action sequences. It’s difficult to put a finger on what exactly makes this show so captivating, but Netflix has certainly attempted to emulate its success.
Following the arrival of a puzzling girl in town, “Stranger Things” chronicles the journey of a band of friends as they work together to quell the eerie perils she brings along. Anticipation mounts for the fifth and concluding season, slated for release around 2025, an event sure to create quite a stir.
Yellowjackets

- Created by: Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson
- Starring: Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ella Purnell, Samantha Hanratty
- Streaming on: Paramount+, Netflix (season 1)
I’m all for a chilling series featuring an exclusively female cast? Count me in! The captivating show “Yellowjackets” offers a gripping survival tale centered around a high school girls’ soccer team who miraculously survive a plane crash. The narrative skillfully weaves between two time periods, revealing their harrowing experiences in the wilderness and their subsequent struggles (or lack thereof) 25 years later. Haunting secrets from their time stranded still haunt them, with cannibalism being one of them.
In Yellowjackets, the acting is exceptional and the storyline is captivating, so gripping that it might even keep you awake. Production for the third season is underway, with a planned release around 2025.
The Last of Us
- Release years: 2023-present
- Created by: Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann
- Starring: Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Merle Dandridge, Anna Torv, Gabriel Luna, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Montreal Woodard, Melanie Lynskey
- Streaming on: Max
The TV series ‘The Last of Us’, derived from the Naughty Dog game, is widely considered one of the greatest video game adaptations ever made. Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by undead humans, the story follows a tough survivor who lost his teenage daughter. Joel’s mission is to escort a girl across the country, as she could potentially be the key to curing the infection. Despite being quite terrifying, ‘The Last of Us’ is more than just a scary show – it’s a heartfelt tale about two unlikely companions whose lives profoundly impact each other.
The Last of Us season 2 comes to HBO sometime in 2025.
The Watcher
- Release years: 2022-present

As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of binge-watching, let me share my thoughts on “The Watcher”, a chilling series based on a true story unveiled in an article for The Cut. This tale revolves around an unidentified stalker who tormented a wealthy New Jersey family, leaving them in a perpetual state of uncertainty and longing for answers that never came. Frustrating? Absolutely. But what makes this series truly spine-tingling is its eerie atmosphere.
Despite wrapping up its first season, the Netflix series “The Watcher” is set to come back for another round. As of now, the details about what the upcoming season will entail remain undisclosed.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
- Release year: 2021
- Created by: Sara Goodman
- Starring: Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Sebastian Amoruso, Ashley Moore, Bill Heck
- Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video
According to the title-matching novel, famously turned into a captivating movie franchise, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” offers a fresh and contemporary spin on our cherished tale. Set in Hawaii, this short-lived series chronicles a band of teenagers who accidentally kill one of their friends when they hit her with their car at night. Unbeknownst to them, the victim was actually the twin sister of their friend, leading to a chain of mysterious events as they strive to resume normal lives.
The remake garnered mostly unfavorable criticisms, possibly causing its termination. However, in my opinion, it’s quite entertaining if one doesn’t overanalyze it. Moreover, the murder scenes are captivating enough to maintain interest for any horror enthusiast.
Teacup
- Release year: 2024
- Created by: Ian McCulloch
- Starring: Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, Chaske Spencer

The final two entries on this list are brand new, debuting this month just in time for the chilling festivities. “Teacup” tells a tale of a contented farm family who grow progressively uneasy as they encounter peculiar events on their property. Not only do their animals behave erratically and succumb to mysterious deaths, but they also cross paths with an enigmatic figure trying to forewarn them of impending danger. Unseen forces threaten their safety and the wellbeing of their neighbors. Whatever it may be, it seems ominous indeed.
The TV series, “Teacup,” is split into ten segments. These segments are rolled out in pairs every now and then on the streaming platform, Peacock. The last pair of episodes is scheduled to drop on Halloween.
