10 Strongest One Piece Characters as of 2026, Ranked

By 2026, the One Piece manga will be approaching the end of its thrilling Elbaf Arc, and the anime is expected to start covering that same story later in the year. No matter how much time passes, fans continue to debate which characters are the most powerful, especially focusing on the pirates and Marines who are currently still fighting.

These One Piece characters might not be the absolute strongest in the series overall, but they are the most powerful ones who are still actively fighting as of Chapter 1171. This list doesn’t include characters who are rumored to be incredibly strong, but haven’t actually been shown fighting, like Monkey D. Dragon and Figarland Shamrock.

Monkey D. Luffy is Still the Weakest of the True Emperors of the Sea

Luffy started as a young boy with rubber-like abilities, traveling in a barrel, but has grown into one of the most powerful pirates in the world – a Yonko. He’s also revealed to be the reincarnation of the legendary Sun God Nika. With his mastery of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, Luffy now has the power to overcome even the strongest Marine Admirals.

Luffy’s biggest weakness is his endurance; he can’t sustain his powerful Gear 5 form long enough to win a direct fight against other strong opponents. He only beat Kaido because Kaido was already exhausted from battling the Nine Red Scabbards, Zoro, Law, Kid, Killer, Momonosuke, and Yamato. Even now, Luffy’s raw physical strength isn’t on the same level as the other Emperors, with Buggy being the only exception.

Monkey D. Garp Can Still Fight On Par With Admirals, Even Past His Prime

During his peak, Monkey D. Garp was incredibly powerful, considered one of the strongest characters ever in the world of One Piece. He was a rival to legends like Gol D. Roger and Rocks D. Xebec. Even though he’s aged, Garp – the father of Monkey D. Dragon and grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy – remains a formidable opponent.

Honestly, people really underestimate Garp just because he’s ‘only’ a Vice Admiral and doesn’t have a Devil Fruit! But trust me, the guy is incredibly strong. It’s been pretty clear he can go toe-to-toe with the Admirals, especially with his mastery of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. I mean, Sengoku actually had to stop him from killing Akainu during the Summit War! And his fight with Aokiji? He was winning, straight up, until someone interfered. Garp is a monster, plain and simple.

Admiral Kizaru Could Have Easily Killed Luffy on Egghead

Although Admiral Kizaru, also known as Borsalino, isn’t as powerfully offensive as members of the Monkey family like Luffy, he’s still the better fighter. During their battle on Egghead, Luffy couldn’t win because he ran out of energy, and would have been defeated if Kizaru hadn’t needed him alive for his own plans.

Kizaru is unmatched in speed, able to move at the speed of light. His Devil Fruit, the Pika Pika no Mi, also gives him a lot of different abilities. Even before the two-year timeskip, he fought equally with Silvers Rayleigh, proving that not having Conqueror’s Haki isn’t a disadvantage for him.

Kuzan is Stronger Than Ever as One of the Blackbeard Pirates

Kuzan, formerly the first Marine Admiral people knew, is now one of Blackbeard’s most powerful commanders, serving as one of the Ten Titanic Captains. He ate the Hie Hie no Mi Devil Fruit, giving him incredible ice-based powers, and is also a master of Haki, making him a formidable fighter in the world of One Piece.

Although Kuzan doesn’t seem to have Conqueror’s Haki, his Armament Haki is powerful enough to fight Garp as an equal. He also clearly has incredible control over ice – he didn’t even need to use it to win against his former teacher, proving he’s become even stronger than the man who trained him.

Dracule Mihawk Remains the Ultimate Benchmark For Roronoa Zoro

Dracule Mihawk, widely considered the world’s greatest swordsman, has been a key character in One Piece since the very beginning, yet we’ve never seen him truly tested in a full battle. While some characters, like Dragon, remain largely mysterious, fans already know Mihawk is incredibly powerful – so powerful that almost no one could defeat him in a fight.

Mihawk doesn’t possess any Devil Fruit powers, and the specifics of his Haki remain a mystery. He’s a long-time rival of Shanks and currently boasts a bounty of 3.59 billion Belly as a powerful member of a Yonko crew. While he hasn’t always proven invincible – he struggled against Vista during the war and seemed hesitant to fight the Straw Hats or Blackbeard – it’s clear he’s holding back. Given how much stronger Zoro has become without yet surpassing Mihawk, a full-force battle between them promises to be an incredible spectacle.

Fleet Admiral Akainu Killed the Strongest Pirate of the Modern Era

Fleet Admiral Akainu, also known as Sakazuki, is one of Imu’s most dangerous assets, perhaps only rivaled by the God Knights, Figarland Garling and Figarland Shamrock. He possesses the Magu Magu no Mi, widely considered the strongest offensive Devil Fruit. During the Summit War, Akainu played a key role, tragically killing Portgas D. Ace, directly battling Whitebeard, and ultimately defeating Kuzan after a grueling ten-day fight.

Even though Akainu won against Kuzan (who recently beat Garp), and despite Whitebeard being in poor health when Akainu fought him, it’s clear Luffy isn’t strong enough yet to face the Admiral who killed his brother. Some fans underestimate the Admirals compared to the Emperors, but Akainu could definitely have gone toe-to-toe with Big Mom and Kaido.

Blackbeard is Fated to Be Luffy’s Ultimate Rival

Blackbeard, whose real name is Marshall D. Teach, is considered one of the strongest characters in One Piece. For a long time, fans believed he would be the series’ ultimate villain, until the character Imu was introduced. What makes Blackbeard so dangerous is that he’s the only person who wields the power of two Devil Fruits, and the story often portrays him as overwhelmingly powerful, particularly in battles we don’t actually see.

Blackbeard was a formidable fighter even before gaining the powers of a Devil Fruit, as evidenced by his ability to wound Shanks in battle. The Yami Yami no Mi granted him a dark power that allowed him to defeat Ace, and his intelligence helped him overcome and kill Whitebeard, taking the Gura Gura no Mi and potentially gaining the power to destroy the world. Most recently, Blackbeard defeated Trafalgar Law, who had just won a fight against Big Mom.

Loki Appears Increasingly Powerful With Each New One Piece Chapter

Loki debuted in the current Elbaf Arc as a formidable opponent, but recent chapters have revealed just how incredibly powerful he is – potentially the strongest character in the world of One Piece. As the son of the former giant king Harald, he was already considered a major threat with a bounty of 2.6 billion Belly and a likely candidate for God’s Knights. However, the ongoing flashback detailing his past is proving that his initial appearance actually downplayed his true strength.

Loki is incredibly powerful, wielding Ragnir, a warhammer that absorbed the power of a Devil Fruit. He was strong enough to defeat Harald, a long-time enemy of Rocks D. Xebec, which is a significant feat. What’s more, it’s been confirmed Loki has mastered Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, putting him at a similar level to powerful figures like Big Mom and Kaido.

Shanks is Quite Obviously the Strongest Pirate in the World

Shanks is the last surviving member of the original four Emperors, making him the most powerful human character in One Piece. As the son of Figarland Garling and a former apprentice to Gol D. Roger, he’s been a major figure since the beginning of the series. After years of anticipation, the current storyline is finally giving Shanks a central role in the action.

Early in the One Piece series, Shanks was established as a long-time rival of Mihawk, strong enough to fight Whitebeard on equal footing. He even brought the Summit War to an end simply by appearing. More recently, Shanks easily defeated Eustass Kid and his crew, demonstrating that his Haki is currently the most powerful in the world.

Imu is the Ultimate Evil That Haunts the World of One Piece

Imu, the shadowy opposite of the Sun God Nika, potentially the one who defeated Joyboy, and the seemingly eternal, tyrannical ruler of the world, is almost certainly the most powerful character in One Piece. Although their abilities and real name are a mystery, everything revealed so far indicates that no pirate or Marine currently alive comes close to their strength.

Imu is incredibly powerful and virtually untouchable, able to withstand attacks even from legendary figures like Rocks, Roger, Garp, Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard. Their mere presence terrified Sabo. Imu is the source of the Five Elders’ and God’s Knights’ strength, and possesses the ability to corrupt anyone – even someone as formidable as Rocks – into a monstrous being.
