10 News+ SLASHED just four months after debut – as the struggling current affairs show that replaced The Project is slammed as ‘depressing’ and ‘boring’ by viewers

Channel Ten has cancelled its new current affairs program due to low viewership.

On Thursday, it was announced that 10 News+ episodes will now be 30 minutes long, a reduction from their previous hour-long format.

The news program, which premiered in June and is hosted by Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace – both formerly with Seven – hasn’t attracted many viewers after just four months on air.

Okay, so everyone was so upset when they cancelled The Project, and 10 News+ was supposed to be the thing to fix it, you know? They said it would be new and actually good, a real information source. But honestly? It’s just…not working. I keep checking the ratings, hoping it’ll take off, but it’s barely getting any viewers. It’s heartbreaking, really, because I wanted it to be amazing!

10 News+ will stay on air six days a week. Brace and Hitchcock will host the show from Sunday to Thursday, while Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton will present it on Fridays.

Martin White, news chief at Ten, explained to the Sydney Morning Herald that this change will reduce workload and enable reporters to cover more stories.

Reporting will be much smoother now that the team doesn’t have daily deadlines, and I believe this change will be a big benefit to them.

10 News+ was intended to be a sophisticated current affairs show, but viewers haven’t been very impressed with it.

The premiere episode in June didn’t appeal to everyone, and many people shared their opinions about it on X (formerly Twitter).

Some viewers likened 10 News+ to the program A Current Affair, with one person commenting that it involved similar tactics – like visiting people’s homes and having them avoid being filmed.

One viewer expressed disappointment that their local news program, The Project, had been replaced with a live stream from Temu, noting it was a letdown and criticizing the quality of 10news+.

This commercial feels like typical low-quality advertising. It’s a strange mix of sensationalism and over-the-top comedy, and the newscaster voices are ridiculous!

A viewer watching at home wondered if anyone else was finding the show boring, and another commented that they didn’t want to see any more lengthy reports so late in the day.

Ugh, seriously, it’s just awful – totally lifeless! They need to reboot it, like, yesterday. I’m talking a full-on ‘Project 2.0’! And honestly, I want to see it go head-to-head with ‘Home and Away’ in the best TV slot possible. It’s a risky move, but they have to try! I’m rooting for it, even if it’s a long shot.

One person tweeted they didn’t even want to look at #10newsplus and just wanted #TheProjectTV back. Another questioned Denham Hitchcock, asking if he was AI-generated or simply unintelligent.

Viewers reacted negatively to the show, with one commenting it ‘won’t last the year.’ Another described it as feeling like an outdated parody, comparing it to a comedy sketch from the 1980s, and criticized the enthusiastic fist pump at the end as awkward.

Hitchcock and Brace pledged to prioritize honesty and deliver reliable information on their show, which premiered on June 30th at 6 p.m., immediately following the 5 p.m. news.

The Project was officially axed after 16 years last week, and aired its final episode on June 27.
