Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Marvel Zombies Season 1
Disney+ has renewed Marvel Zombies for a second season, just six months after the first season premiered. The ending of Season 1 left viewers on a cliffhanger – Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, found herself in what seemed like a perfect world created by the Scarlet Witch, but soon realized zombies had taken over Earth. Her friend, Riri Williams (Ironheart), was one of the few survivors. This sets up intriguing possibilities for Season 2, and makes fans wonder which other Marvel characters might still be around during the zombie apocalypse.
The Marvel Zombies series, stemming from the What If…? episode, includes numerous key Marvel characters from the first four phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because the series’ alternate timeline starts in 2018, before Avengers: Infinity War, some characters like She-Hulk and Sentry haven’t yet developed their powers. Still, many characters were already established as existing during the Infinity Saga, and the series could also include characters introduced in later phases (Four and Five), as well as welcome back faces from the old Netflix Marvel shows. All of these would be fantastic additions to Marvel Zombies.
The Guardians of the Galaxy

One of the biggest mysteries in the Marvel Zombies universe revolves around the Guardians of the Galaxy. Since the zombie Thanos from Infinity War appeared to have the Soul Stone, Gamora is likely gone. But that still leaves the rest of the Guardians unaccounted for. Even with Earth under quarantine by the Nova Corps, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, would probably be worried about a zombie outbreak happening on his former planet. And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to see Rocket Raccoon and Groot battling a swarm of zombies?
Elsa Bloodstone

Elsa Bloodstone was introduced in Werewolf by Night as the daughter of renowned monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t done much with her since. Marvel Zombies has been great at giving overlooked characters a chance to shine, and Elsa is particularly well-suited to survive a zombie outbreak – perhaps even more so than Blade, and any other character on this list.
Jane Foster / The Mighty Thor

The movie Thor: Love and Thunder added a detail explaining how Mjölnir chose Jane Foster: it protects people in need. The film showed the hammer finding her after she was diagnosed with cancer. This raises an interesting question: if a zombie outbreak happened, would Mjölnir have sought her out before her cancer became severe, giving her Thor’s powers earlier? Because medical care would be unavailable during a zombie apocalypse, her cancer would likely go untreated. This means she’d be forced to stay in her Thor form indefinitely, or risk her health. This kind of alternate storyline would be a perfect fit for the Marvel Zombies series.
Man-Thing

The Man-Thing’s touch burns those who are afraid, but what about zombies – can they even feel fear? This intriguing character first appeared in Werewolf by Night and surprisingly hasn’t gotten his own Disney+ series. He’s a perfect candidate – no expensive voice actor needed, and his story could be told through stunning animation. A series could explore his role as a guardian of the multiverse at the Nexus of All Realities, and even bring the zombie virus to other universes, just like in the original Marvel Zombies comics.
The Punisher

As a huge fan, I never really believed the Punisher was gone during the events of Marvel Zombies. And with Jon Bernthal already back as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again, and with more appearances planned in The Punisher: One Last Kill and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, having him voice the Punisher in Marvel Zombies Season 2 just makes perfect sense. I’m really excited by the idea of them doing something similar to what they did with Blade and Moon Knight, maybe even combining the Punisher with Ghost Rider – they’ve done that in the comics before, and it could be awesome!
Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter is reprising her role as Jessica Jones in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and now that her story is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she’d be a perfect addition to Marvel Zombies. The mature themes of her previous show already fit the dark tone of this zombie universe, and a widespread outbreak could push Jessica to rely on her powers more than ever. Since Jessica was always a solitary person, it would be interesting to see how the virus forces her further into isolation, and what happens when she inevitably has to team up with other survivors. That’s the exciting part of putting a realistic character like Jessica Jones into a more fantastical and frightening corner of the MCU.
Luke Cage

The show Marvel Zombies raises an intriguing possibility with the character Luke Cage: since his skin is impervious to bullets, could he also be immune to a zombie bite? If a bite can’t turn him, he’d be the only person in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with that protection. This creates a compelling, tragic figure – peaceful in his own safety, but heartbroken watching everyone around him succumb to the virus. This unique position, and the potential for him to hold the key to a cure, makes Luke Cage a crucial character for Season 2 of Marvel Zombies. With recent photos from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 indicating Mike Colter will return as Luke Cage, and the character now officially part of the MCU, bringing him into Marvel Zombies makes perfect sense.
Daredevil

Matt Murdock, Daredevil, has become a key figure connecting the different storylines in the current phase of Marvel movies and shows. With his popularity growing, he’d be a great addition to the Marvel Zombies universe. Daredevil’s heightened senses and strong moral beliefs offer exciting possibilities for the story. For example, could he detect zombies through sound or smell? And how would his faith affect his response to a zombie apocalypse? Marvel Zombies could explore these questions in compelling ways.
Agatha Harkness

Since Scarlet Witch was the big villain in the first season of Marvel Zombies, it makes sense that Agatha Harkness will appear in Season 2. Agatha was the main enemy in WandaVision, and that show proved she’s capable of subtly changing reality. Scarlet Witch essentially rebuilt reality in Season 1 of Zombies, so Agatha might be the only one who can undo what’s been done. Plus, Kathryn Hahn has already reprised her role as Agatha in What If…?, opening the door for her return.
Werewolf by Night

Jack Russell, also known as Werewolf by Night, is a fascinating addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel Studios hasn’t quite figured out how to use him. It’s been almost four years since his introduction in a special Disney+ presentation directed by Michael Giacchino and starring Gael García Bernal, and there haven’t been any plans to bring him back or include him in other stories. Given his supernatural abilities and experience with monsters, Werewolf by Night would be a perfect fit for the Marvel Zombies universe, potentially offering unique insight into the zombies’ Quantum Realm origins. Plus, a fight between a werewolf and a zombie would be incredibly exciting! Werewolf by Night should be a key character in Season 2 of Marvel Zombies and have a larger role in the MCU going forward.
